E63S Wagon -> going to Taycan hopefully
Country flag
Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and am thinking about trading my 2019 E63S Wagon for a ~2021 4S CT. I live in LA and daily my wagon and average about 11 mpg on the streets and it's slowly wearing away my soul.

Before making the swap I wanted to ask the community if this is generally viewed as a good or bad idea? I can get a CPO car with pretty low miles for basically what my car is currently worth

I've driven a few Taycans and really loved the experience and technology but the E-wagon is just such a hard car to let go of.
Thoughts?

For reference, I have 3 kids I take to school daily and I'd plan to let the oldest ride in the front. I also own a new Tundra so I have a car for hauling stuff so the smaller cargo space isn't going to be in issue.

Thanks!

I moved from a 2016 RS6 to a Taycan GTS ST. It’s been brilliant. Yes, slight sacrifice in internal space compared to the Audi, and the lack of noise makes for a very different experience, but not in any way bad - just different. You can’t compare how the two handle either - it’s another world.

I have a "classic" 1991 Merc 500E, nothing like an E63 on power, but less weight and size though.
Since I bought my Taycan I don't drive it, everything I liked about it is done as well or better by the Taycan.

I bought it new though and I have an emotional attachment since Michael Schumacher has driven it. One of the mechanics on his car back then wants to buy it - he is now Sporting Director at Red Bull and has always been a Porsche enthusiast and likes the fact it was built by Porsche but it will be hard to let go.

The Taycan is the best overall road car of all IMO.

I sold a 2019 C63 and replaced with the Taycan Turbo ST. Do I miss that ridiculous engine sometimes? Of course, the engine is what really makes those AMG's and it really is a centerpiece

But day to day the Porsche is so much more refined, quieter, comfortable and better built inside. The ride is better in both casual driving and sport modes and it grips so much better. It's also lovely to steer around windy roads. I do miss the jeopardy/fun of the RWD, but the Taycan just hooks up so much better and gives much more feel

11 mpg would make me cry.
The difference between 60p a mile and 2p a mile for the Taycan at UK prices
20,000 miles at £12,000 or £400
It wouldn't even matter to me if the Taycan was a much worse car!
(It isn't!)

I went from a daily Panamera Sport Turismo (wagon) to the Taycan Cross Turismo. Both are 4S. The reduction in interior space (both front and rear) is something I have not fully come to grips with. I consider the trade off of going from ICE to EV worth it but I am reminded of the trade each time I get in and bring the kids to school.

I am looking forward to when Audi releases an EV wagon since Porsche seems to have left me for dead with the EV Panamera Sport Turismo.

I had a W213 E63S. The car was amazing and the motor was intoxicating. The noise from the motor/exhaust will be one of the biggest things that you'll miss. You'll make up for the loss by getting instant torque and not paying for gas in the CT.

First of all, thank you all for the thoughtful responses. I truly appreciate it.

Second, thank you for validating my feeling that this is a difficult decision. I kept having this conversation in my head and it was great to bring it outside!

I think the punchline is the following - the cars are both excellent to drive, luxurious and fun. The E63S is going to cost a fortune in fuel with less future depreciation while the 4S CT will cost nothing to fuel and probably a lot in depreciation.

I'm going to list my wagon for sale and if it sells for the reserve then I'll get the 4S but it if doesn't, I'll keep it and be perfectly ok about it!

Rear passenger space will be much less than you are used to. If that isn’t important then I think it would be a good move.

Two dealers have told me they cannot give EV’s away, and there is tons of conversation on here about value dropping like a stone, so if nothing else, keep that in mind if you negotiate on a Taycan.

I got a 2024 CT 4 and am happy, but Porsche discounted it about 19%. They don’t do that if the demand is good.

Curious about the specific dealership since your location is "NE"?
And the 19% discount from "Porsche" -- you mean leasing incentives from Porsche Cars North America, or an actual 19% purchase discount off MSRP from the dealer?

Fueling the 4S CT (or any EV) is far from free. Unless you're willing to submit yourself to the indignities of EA. Or somehow have a solar array generating excess kWh w/o the ability to sell it back to the grid via net metering.
And even though the E63S sounds like quite the fire-breathing dragon and gasoline-consuming monster, those incremental costs are trivial compared to the overall ownership costs of switching over to a Taycan.

As for the interior space, IFF (and that's a big IFF!) your E63S has interior space comparable to the A6ar, then the CT passenger comfort isn't all that much different (at least for people who aren't especially tall or wide, so another big caveat there), but the CT cargo capacity is vastly reduced (barely bigger than the smaller overall size class i4).

Mine was a lease. Porsche Princeton. Porsche gave $12,500, requiring dealer to chip in another $5,000. Then they also paid up to $4,500 for remaining lease payments.

^ Wow, nice deal! I was in touch with them last year about a couple used CT listings. Ended up not having exactly the options I wanted, but the sales person was nice to interact with via email (which is more than I can say for many other Porsche dealers).

As much as I love EVs, this is a very tough decision! The E63 wagon is just such a cool car. For me it would probably come down to how many miles to drive a year- if not many, keep the E63 and enjoy that engine for a few more years before cars like this no longer exist.
