Porsche's list of the Taycan's most efficient configurations sounds impressive, but when PIRM suggests range mode nav route alternatives for my long trips, the estimated time savings (travel and charging) to arrive at destination with same SoC as normal mode is always very small.
PIRM itself doesn't give much value to all those 'most efficient configurations'.
I understand that perspective, and I don’t use range mode all of the time, but there are times when I am trying to squeeze some more range out AND my impression is that it helps more the faster you are going. In other words, not much of a difference when you are going 35-55 mph, but the impact is much greater when you are going 85-100 mph, not that I would ever do such a thing . . . sort of like aero features . . . the GT3 RS wing doesn't do much at 35 but helps a lot more at 100 . . .

The route predictions do not take those speed variations into account.

Plus, I’m fine in Range mode as it really is no sacrifice (until this past weekend with the reset destination). I just reduced my SOC at destination from 25% to 17%, so maybe that will help!

Historically there have been greater differences. From MY20 through to the major software change (coloured icons) and standard from MY22 onwards Porsche altered the Range mode quite significantly. Originally, the front motor would be powered down on AWD models but since the change the car has become predominantly RWD and so spinning down the front motor has negligible range impact.

Range mode is largely redundant IMHO ever since. Altering AC modes has the most impact these days.

Short of turning off PIRM (which I don't think I want to do because I want to retain the battery pre-conditioning), does anyone have any suggestions on changes to settings to address this? Can you designate your house as an exception or as a charging destination (for me only as it would be a disaster if a bunch of Taycan owners started showing up for a charge)?
If you set the SoC at destination to a very low level ( I think 3% is the lowest) it will not try to make you stop at any charging station in your case. If the charge level would be lower than 3% than you need to stop and charge. I am so happy to not have PIRM in my car because of that adjustment of speed.

There were a lot of videos on people testing PIRM when the Taycan was launched and the PIRM irritated most of them. It will try to get you to the destination with your stored energy, but slow down and also cut the heating etc, .
And I think we all agree that the Porsche SW is not any way near World Class.

I am hoping others can help explain the best way to use Porsche Intelligent Range Manager (PIRM).

Coming home to DC from Philly yesterday, I was running both Waze via CarPlay and PCM navigation with PIRM.

Following a horrific charging experience (my first in over a decade of owning EVs), I decided to use Range mode and departed with only 20 miles buffer to get home to my home charger (which was absolutely fine, as I arrived with 34 miles to spare).

The problem I started running into is that, unexpectedly, Porsche InnoDrive (PID) would change my preset speed of 85 mph down to 55 mph. This is of course disturbing because the car rapidly slows down without warning. The work around is that I would switch off range mode so that I could retain my desired preset speed of 85 mph.

At first, I couldn't understand why this was happening, but then I realized that the navigation must have been setting a new destination for a charger given my level of charge, and then reducing my speed to conserve charge. I could go back in and reset my destination to my home and then I could go back to Range mode and my preferred speed (85 mph), but it would then switch the destination back.

Thanks

I know this is a late reply but could your speed variance problem be caused by using InnoDrive instead of the standard adaptive cruise control? I find ID useless since every time the speed limit changes (and it changes often) it slows the car down to match the posted limit. Just a thought.
