I left them last year too (after being with them and other group insures for many years). Maybe they will offer me a sensible renewal premium again, in November.
Well as it happens, as of late November, I'm now back again with Admiral for the next 12 months.

Not sure what happened with them back in late 2023 when my renewal premium basically tripled in price (£2,907) from what I payed in 2022 (£986).

Now paying £1,477

It's because the UK car insurance industry is a joke.

It seems to be very similar to the likes of mobile phone companies and SkyTV etc...able to add all sorts of additional discounts for "new customers" etc. Loyalty/longevity with a company counts for nothing. They rely on people not bothering to shop around and must be bonused principally on new business.

For something that's a compulsory purchase, it needs more regulation IMO (and it's rare I will ever say that!).

Well I just got my renewal and it dropped to about £960 from (IIRC) about £1200 last year. And, even more amazingly my 20yr old son’s has gone down to £460 (old car, but even so). Admiral multi car policy. Not worth shopping around

In preparation for my ongoing Taycan search I checked insurance prices this afternoon and weirdly found with a CT4 at £1060 a Turbo S with a £5k higher value was £860 ish, both from admiral.

I was expecting around 1k, having run quotes a month or two ago for the Taycan and various other cars I’ve been considering. Early 40s, no claims, living out in the sticks. 4 years ago an M4 was £500 in Edinburgh city….

God knows with insurance actuarial shizzle, but I suspect it's about volumes of models on the roads - hence their risk profile. There will be a ton more base, CT4 and 4S etc models compared to Turbo and Turbo S.

I’ve just changed from a GTS to a Turbo S and got a £100 refund with a renewal in May, so that makes it about £250 per year cheaper.

Has anyone used Aviva zero? They just came in about £500 less than last year's admiral gold price.

Mixed reviews for them, but same for most insurers i guess. .

No, but have used Aviva for other things and they've been fine...

What’s the small print for the "Zero" bit?

It offsets some carbon as part of the policy, hence the zero.

Seems a fairly comprehensive policy, but it also comes in cheaper than various other aviva quotes on same platform.

Sounds like there customer service is a bit crap. But heard the same about other insurers too.

I've just been getting some quotes for a '22 GTS ST and am surprised at how expensive it is! I got some quotes around 650 for a regular 4 CT when I started looking for Taycans and the GTS is coming in about 200 quid more. I guess it's all the carbon bits / cost of repair, but even so...

The prospect of paying £850 to insure a car has surprised me, I'm 40, bags of NCB, live in the middle of nowhere, plenty of other cars in the household, relatively low annual mileage on each car as a result. Even my thief-magnet modern Range Rover is only £500 here.

However, reading this thread I now think maybe £850 isn't so bad after all?

That quote was on comparethemarket with Aviva Zero (I've got another car insured with them at the moment and no complaints, but no claims either...).

Is there anyone else I should try, that isn't on CTM? I'll try Lockton on Monday, as they insure one of my other cars too, but I'm expecting them to be expensive.

Wow, thanks. Ok maybe I am still getting off lightly here then.
