This arrived late today in a front yard in East London. Missed the snow.

Too bad I didn’t miss the ice in front of it and nearly ended up on the bonnet admiring it ?
With the shipping protection stripped off, now getting a buff at Topaz Detailing...

My car is almost ready and they assure me it will be in December but just trying to work out if before Christmas day or after. They have just done the usual sales pitch but rather than just the wax or low grade protection they have offered Gtech platinum ceramic coating for £999 which I didn't think was too bad. They say it is an external detailing company they use to come in and do it for them. They also assure me that they do a stage one polish etc to get rid of any imperfections.

Seems good to me. Anyone else used Gtech platinum ceramic coating? I've used Gyeon before on my current car. Would save me the effort of getting it to a detailer etc.

Probably cost £600-750 from the local detailing company and they are adding a significant mark-up?

I had Gtech on a 488 a few years back… lasted the 3 years I had the car. I’ve also chose to have it for my Taycan due in March (by the dealer before collection).

I thought this too but it’s the convenience of getting it done before collection.
Fair enough. Some dealers will allow a detailer to sort out the car at the dealership ahead of collection or take it away (in a suitable vehicle) to be detailed off site and returned ready for collection.

This...I've decided the £200 ish saving doesn't match the simplicity of getting it all done before pick up. At least it is done by a detailing company rather than the dealer so should still be done right.

Agree - mine will be prepped for ppf, ppf’d and then ceramic coated prior to collection from the dealer. Local company that are highly recommended and a decent dealer who wants to be helpful. Paying more for the convenience but not that much really.

Indeed, as per my post above, I elected to have Topaz do it (who come independently highly recommended). They have a working relationship with Porsche East London (and also South London - Jardine Group effectively) so are collecting and dropping cars to/from them in a covered transporter most days.

If I had used 'my' guys I would have had to organise transport myself, or just drive it to them, after collection, which kind of negates the whole point of having (at least PPF) applied to unblemished paintwork.

This way it's all done and sorted beforehand.

I'm doing a mix of both PPF (frontal areas+sills) and Gtech everywhere else.

Not strictly true that a new car is unblemished mate..

The detailer i used in Twickenham told me to bring the car to him dirty from the boat and not let the dealer wash it. The dirtier the better he said as he said he would have to do a full wash on it and then a grade 1 polish.

It’s a myth that a brand new car is unblemished as it‘s not (plenty of stuff on the net about it esp You Tube - it’s shocking how poor Tesla paint it!).

After the polish it’s then another full detailed clean and then the ceramic or PPF.

I took my car over a few days after collecting, dropped off and got the loan car from him and went back next day for mine all done With 5 year protection (ceramic).

I agree it’s less convenient but cost me £400 this way rather than the £800+ quoted..

Porsche paintwork is generally pretty good from new, but certainly not always perfect, so a good dealer will need to work on any problem areas before applying any sort of coating - PPF or just ceramic / wax etc.

Yeah I’m getting a stage 2 detail + correction before any PPF or Gtech is applied.

Agreed that the paintwork on many factory fresh cars isn’t perfect, far from it in many cases.

What I didn’t want is a nice chip before the PPF is applied. Given I’m having to replace a windscreen from a chip I got 2 weeks ago (and didn’t book in immediately for repair) was I my mind. Also logistically and timing wise this particular course of action suited me much better.

I’m pretty sure a stage 2 isn’t necessary on a new car ?

Yeah my detailer is doing mine in a couple of weeks so I went ahead with the free Swissvax (and will use Aquawax in the meantime too), to protect it beforehand. He’ll sort anything on the paint out and then PPF and ceramic coat it. Wanted the car asap and detailer has paint corrected some of my old (inc 2nd hand), cars to pristine condition before so not worried. It’s also great to get a car that looks brand new again afterwards, like a second collection day! ??
