Hi all, I’m new to the forum. I have a 4S Cross Turismo for just over a year, and love it. I went to wash it today and noticed some marks on the wheels and I’m gutted! I ensure I park nowhere near a kurb to make sure I don’t mark them. It seems the wheels have odd white marks and lines on the chrome part. I can only assume it’s not off a kurb as the surface is smooth. Searching the web the only cause seems to be corrosion. I live in the UK, and yes it’s been wet recently, but I park the car in the garage most nights. Anyone got any advice? Cleaning agent? Manufacturer liability? Etc. any help appreciated. Thanks for any feedback.

Not a mfg problem. Some scratches and marring due to improper cleaning. Also appears to have some impacts from road debris. This is fairly common but more noticeable with this finish and style of wheel. Much of it could be polished out but only you can decide whether that makes sense given how you use the vehicle.

That looks like whiteworm which is a common corrosion problem with alloy wheels but typically takes quite a few years to appear. I have had wheels replaced under warranty for this problem by both Toyota and BMW as it occurred on several cars of my cars and there was no problem with the manufacturer replacing the affetcted wheels within the three year warranty period. I have the same problem with the rear wheels of my 2021 Taycan 4S and have notified my Porsche dealer and I will see what their policy is when the car goes in for its warranty extension when they will have an opportunity to examine the wheels and then repair or replace them under warranty.

Yeah sounds like a similar fault. I’ve contacted my Porsche dealer after speaking with a salesperson who suggested that I put a claim request under warranty. I will let you know how I get on, and if you do the same we should find out if dealers are saying the same thing or not

I had similar corrosion start on the gold crest wheel inserts on mine after just 18 months.

Dealer’s first response was that it was down to acid wheel cleaner use. I’ve never used it and only ever use the shampoo provided with the ceramic coating service.

After the warranty manager inspected the wheels he readily accepted that it was a warranty issue. I’m now getting outbreaks of round delaminating of the main wheel which is closer to the centre hub so unlikely to be stone chips or scrapes. The linear ones in yours look like some form of abrasion eroding the surface lacquer and allowing moisture in but the rounded bubbling is classic white worm.

It seems to be a feature of these wheels. Mine has less than 10k miles and is garaged when not in use in a well ventilated garage…disappointing and not something I’ve experienced on alloys in the past that have had far tougher lives.

Do you use mechanical car washes?

Hi, I always hand wash the car and dont use alloy wheel cleaners to ensure there is no risk to the polished finish. The whiteworm on my wheels is on the centre and struts and is quite small areas but once the corrosion starts it spreads so I am hoping Porsche will replace or repair the wheels when they do the extended warranty inspection.

I only hand wash the wheels with AutoGlym car shampoo and that’s occasional. My car has done 10k since I got it 14 months ago. I’m awaiting a response from the dealer…

Not sure it’s impacts as the wheels are as smooth as a baby’s bottom; surely impact would break the surface and it wouldn’t be smooth. It’s not bubbled or anything, so a mfg fault in my eyes. Will keep all posted once Porsche reply, and if I don’t get a resolution, I’ll go up the Porsche tree

I would be shocked if Porsche did anything based on the photo. Wish you luck in getting this sorted to your satisfaction. As someone that is pretty deep down the rabbit hole on car detailing and automotive finishes, this appears fixable…regardless of who pays.
