The day I got my car with 10 miles on it, I didn't drive it untill I got windshield protection and PPF. Both by Skek

I had to finally remove the Stek windshield protection after 2.5 years and 29,000 miles.
After every drive, I would use a detailing spray with carnauba wax to clean it. This also gave it UV protection which makes it not yellow and lasted much longer without getting brittle.

There were thousands of tiny marks on the film that would have been on the windshield if I didn't have the protection.

There were 5 massive marks that should have cracked my windshield, instead, 3 of them penetrated and nicked the glass itself.
Other than that, the windshield was new.

Now I'm replacing it with Xpels new windshield protection offering to see how that works out.

I would never drive without it.

Did you repair or replace the windshield before applying the new film?

I have film on one of my cars and took a hit earlier this year that would have cracked the glass bad, but instead just penetrated the film and nicked the glass. I’ve been debating what to do when I eventually replace the film.

No I didn't replace the windshield and I can't repair it because it's not cracked, just nicked.
I leased the car and I don't have much time left so I just left it as is

I decided to get the Xpel windshield protection also, but won't be installed until February. Please keep us posted on how you like it. Thanks in advance !

So far, not so good. There are distortion lines in them. My guy said it's from the glue.
It's very clear other than that and I just look through them.

The Stek, comes with ceramic coating and I had an extra coating of ceramic coating on it.
The dealer left my car out, it sprinkled, then dust settled, sun baked it and etched it. I wasn't able to see through it clearly at night so I had to replace it.

It seems ClearPlex is the better solution, but won't last very long.
I don't drive in the rain, or leave it outside much so it should last me around 2 years. I'm fine with that.

Oh wow - Thanks for the info !! I might ask the shop to put a scrap piece on some glass so I can see what it looks like.

FWIW I have Bray on my 911. It’s been on for around 1 year, 26k miles. I’m happy enough with it. The distortion is minor and not something I notice unless I’m looking for it. Main thing is preventing windshield replacements. Both from a cost and time/hassle perspective. It doesn’t look perfect after those miles, but it’s a daily driver; not a show car. Looks good enough for my purposes.

There are 6 lines that look like glue creases so a full roll will give you a more accurate test case. That's what gives you the distortion.
I was trying to get a picture but it doesn't show up
