Why are there two apps. I have been using Porsche Connect and whilst its a little flaky and sometimes slow to action requests - I think (as someone else said) its not the app but rather the reliability and connection between Porsche servers, the car and the app.

That being said, the app works - at least for me. So the question then is why is there even another app being developed, surely it would just be better to integrate the existing one better..Maybe the base foundation and API that the app is built on is not seen as the best foundation long term?
My Porsche App is to replace Porsche Connect App (as I understand it) but as it is as flaky as the one it is intended to replace the original hasn't been withdrawn yet. I also think we are beta testers (again) by stealth.

In which case as beta testers I'd like valet mode to allow you to restrict speed not just ping you when the car leaves the geo-fence set-up :)

The issues seem to be the Porsche servers connecting to the car, or not as the case maybe. Teslas are pretty much constantly online (hence the phantom drain…) with the mothership so their app connects to the servers, then they connect to the cars with little or no issues.
Technology is a double edge sword: great when it works, a pain when it doesn’t. Yesterday early morning I’m on my way to the gym and grab my phone (my car key for my Tesla). Get to the car and the car won’t open. Take the phone out of my pocket and hold it closer to the car. No dice. A message appears on the screen ‘Hold your key card’. So I go back in my house, grab the key card, tap it to the spot on the car and go to the gym. On my way back from the gym, my phone is now working. Luckily this happened on the way to the gym instead of after the gym since I normally don’t carry the key card with me.

Lesson learned: have a backup just in case technology fails. I’m thinking I need to get a Tesla remote to keep on my key chain.

As for multiple apps, I bought an app from the Apple App Store (Stats) for my Tesla which allows me to schedule pre-heat and pre-cool on my gym days. The Tesla factory app doesn’t have this feature. While it would be great to have one Swiss Army knife app which does everything, until that day comes you might need two or three apps to make your life a bit easier.

Yes but that is just an alarm it does not actually restrict people from exceeding the pre-set speed limit - like when a valet takes your car to park it.

Yes but you have evidence to challenge - safety implications otherwise I suspect.

Wow, a beta version of the Porsche Connect app? The production version is already shaky enough...
A beta version of the Porsche connect app to go with what we have, a beta version of the Taycan. :CWL::CWL:

My Taycan is certainly not a beta version. From all the US owner issues, I think Porsche sent all the beta's to the US ;-)

Some ended up in Scotland - in fact I wouldn't be surprised if all MY20 / MY21 owners globally did not have issues at one point or another. The sad fact is that some MY22 folk are also starting to report.

Mt Chevy Tahoe App works fantastic. The App for the 911 us useless, idiotic. The App for my wifes Range Rover is shit, never use it. The Taycan App works on and off, and it's basically shit.

So I just got this from Vodaphone…

Dear Customer,

On behalf of Porsche, we are delighted to inform you that a new app is currently being developed that will soon be available in the App Store and in the Google Play Store.

The new app will combine the services of several already existing Porsche apps, including the Porsche Car Connect app.

This ensures a ‘one of a kind’ user experience and a maximum of connectivity between you and your vehicle.

We will soon give you more information about it but, please, note that the current Porsche Car Connect app will shortly be removed from the stores, therefore shortly unavailable for using.

If you have any specific questions regarding the new app, please email your local Porsche Customer Service at [email protected].

We are looking forward to contacting you with further details.

Kind regards,
Vodafone Automotive

“If you have questions, contact Porsche Customer Service”. That was clearly added for the lulz.

The Continuous Inconvenience continues!

Three Apps are in play here:

1. Porsche Car Connect App is for older Porsche models (MY19 - Panamera (I had it for mine), others).

2. Porsche Connect App is compatible with the Taycan.

3. My Porsche App (logically) will amalgamate all and replace all legacies.

Note that Porsche Car Connect App is not something you want to be using unless you have a compatible Porsche - for Taycan it is no go.

In my opinion you don’t want to be using the Car Connect App even if you have a compatible Porsche ;). My GT4 is technically compatible, but I decided against extending the service agreement when the free period expired after 12 months.

The app is just incredibly outdated and super slow. Not worth it in my opinion for a rather limited feature set. I will maybe have another look once it is available in the MyPorsche App (doesn’t seem to be the case yet), but I doubt that the functionality will be there to justify the annual subscription fee.

The problem is that the app is the front end only, and unless they improve the code/APIs on the backend, failing to connect will just be slightly prettier.
I would assume this is Wireless Car (acquired by Volkswagen in 2018) that needs to put in the effort and the hours?
