What do you think is the difference between rear wheel steer and rear axle steering? I’m sure the terms are used interchangeably?

Surely the point is that the rear wheels (axle) turn to either mirror the front wheels (to aid stability) or the opposite way (to increase agility).

On the GT3 there was RWS but not PSP - as far as I am aware they are entirely separate things for entirely separate purposes.

Indeed, I think you can have PSP without RWS on the Taycan, confirming the two systems are unrelated and independent.
I think you perhaps didn't follow my point.

RAS is bundled with PSP (to complete the package) and if you can't afford or don't feel the need for RAS then PSP is available separately either as a factory option or FOD.

I have both on my car and know what they do.

PSP has been available across much of the Porsche range for years and some either come with RAS or offer as an option.

I think the 991 911 GT3 of some years back offered this originally (and likely the 918 Spyder before it) and then made an appearance across the range.

Speed sensitive steering is a performance handling feature on the one hand as is RAS hence my original point and a convenience on the other (low speed manoeuvres).

i simply don’t see this as relating to each other as a ‘package’, although Porsche will obviously allow you to option them together.

As far as I’m aware the PSP was not available on the GT3 - ultra light steering is exactly the opposite of what you’d want in a car like the GT3. Which is presumably why Porsche’s sportiest cars do not have PSP as standard, or even as an option, but they do have RWS!

Speed sensitive steering is a performance handling feature on the one hand as is RAS hence my original point and a convenience on the other (low speed manoeuvres).
I don’t think many people would agree that PSP is a ‘performance feature’ at all! RWS on the other hand…!

RAS not PSP on 991 GT3 (and 918 Spyder before).

We can agree to disagree on everything else

Yes, RWS debuted on the 918 before being introduced on the 911.1 GT3.

Of course we can, but why would Porsche not include PSP on its sportiest cars if, as you say, it is a ‘performance feature’?

PSP is available for most models. GT3 has the next level up - power assisted, speed sensitive with variable adjustment as STD I think. You could call this PSP+

GT2 I have no idea.

Go To the Porsche website and look at the std spec of a GT3 - looks black and white to me.
992 GT3:
“Electromechanical power-assisted steering with variable steering ratio and speed-sensitive steering force adjustment”

A base Cayman
‘Electromechanical direct steering with variable steering ratio and steering pulse generator”

Both are variable racks, but neither aligns with the description of Porsche Steering Plus?

Anyway, regardless, Merry Christmas all!

I've never driven a Taycan without RAS, however I live in FL where we make extensive use of the u-turn in every day driving. I was surprised to find that the Taycan u-turns better than my Infiniti Q50 did, which is a smaller car. I'm sure there are other advantages as well.

Rear axle steering is a £1650 option in the UK but comes with Power Steering Plus - a must have option in my opinion at £203.

Is the rear axle steering worth the extra £1447 for a car that will be primarily be used as a family car around town and venturing out to the countryside or would that be better used elsewhere?

I’m currently in the queue for both a 4S CT and GTS ST.

I have a tight manoeuvre in my underground garage. It is easy with my RWS. The same manoeuvre in a neighbours BMW i8 takes several more wriggling turns to complete. Couldn’t image not having it.

For my CT 4S, I ordered rear wheel steering and makes car feel much smaller and nibble in parking lots and making u-turns. One strange thing I will report is the sensation I have felt only twice when just about parked. The rear wheel jerked and sent my checkerboard tile floor in garage to move two tiles pretty abruptly. Same thing happened once outside when parking. Strange feeling.

Is this what you're experiencing?
