Shmee is insufferably annoying. Not easy to articulate but he rubs the wrong way for me, hard.

Doug I think (as with any taste) isn't for everyone but I always felt he was a very down to earth and plain guy who happened to have his particular style take off in a way that was sustainable. I respect him because he has basically done the same thing for years with the same template and low budget, and it keeps being successful. Some would say that's stagnation, but clearly it works for him and his fans!

Interesting, but then many "Influencers" come across as saints in their videos, while being a**holes IRL.

In the UK, we would consider Schmee a "toff", which the Oxford Dictionary describes as a derogatory term for "a rich or upper-class person" and they usually talk with a plum in their mouth.

That social class generally would look down on lower classes, and certainly Americans who they would consider "brash" and "philistine". It doesn't hark back to the Revolution, it is squarely a snobby attitude to other cultures.

That might be why you had the negative interaction with him.

I will admit, his demeanor in all his videos seems forced and contrived, but then it earns him a lot of Google kick backs £££.

p.s. I also thought what he replaced his (nasty spec) Taycan Turbo S (which he hated) with - a Ferrari GTC4Lusso - was ugly. Nasty colour and nothing particularly exciting about it.

I find Doug’s videos useful to see little details that other reviewers don’t mention (quirks and features). Other reviewers just drive the car and talk. Doug showed how the variable light control roof worked, in great detail. I wish I could spec it with my car but it’d delay several months and I can live without it.

I wasn't paying much attention to the spec, what did you find nasty about it? His choice of colours was not to my taste. The BRG wrap was fine I suppose but I was really not a fan of pairing it with the Au wheels

That was it mainly, the BRG is too dark and in my opinion dark colours make the Taycan look drab and uninteresting, where its subtle lines are what makes it so unique and aesthetic.

The aurum painted Mission E's looked tacky and didn't work with the BRG. Black would have worked better. It just didn't look particularly special and was the most drab car of his entire collection.

No wonder he was never excited about it. Most of the audience wasn't either. He had the money to properly cyberpunk the car, but instead he seemed to spend more time and effort modding his Yaris GR ?

Also, more from a "what did you think was going to happen" perspective, he had a Turbo S, which is optimised for raw speed not range.

Shmee knows he always does big tours, and needed range, so why didn't he get a 4S instead?

He then went about making a huge point of the poor range.

Then to make a subtle point of his dislike for his Taycan, he swapped it for the polar opposite car with a huge gas guzzling V12... That admittedly looks equally dull and unexciting.

All a bit pointless really. But each to their own.

I find him irritating with a total charisma bypass but had the impression he quite liked his Taycan - he used it as his daily driver for months when he had plenty of other choices - but had chosen to soak up the narrative that EVs are not all that green because he is IMO a bit thick.

Haha he can get a bit tedious. I find Shmee likes to always play in the middle-ground so as not to turn off any of his audience. They make him £££ in views/ad revenue. I would do the same.

If he replaced the Taycan with an EQS or e-Tron then I might accept he was being serious about EVs. But his swap for a meaty V12 said a lot about his bittersweet opinion of where the car industry is going, and I may have seen that video you're hinting about where he talked through the EV/ICE comparison vs the environment.

It was a bit simplistic. And in terms of his intelligence, that would befit someone from a background of money, where life is so easy, why bother becoming studious?...

After seeing this review I don’t think I ever need to see another of his videos. I think thick is an apt description.

I have a feeling it will be this week. I know from RBR Instagram that the filming of the GTR is done and dusted and he hasn't released a video for two weeks now. Must be imminent!
