Well, if those Austrian or Swiss ones are near or at Ski resorts, and the German ones on the Autobahn's I'd happily take an extended route through on the way (for the unlimited sections) then colour me happy ?⛷?

So possibly no DC charging...... At 220V/L2 rates people will be hanging out in those lounges for some time. What happens when they get backed up? Oh that's right, EA/Ionity L3 charging.

Sounds like an admission of failure for the current setup. Can they build enough Porsche stations to cover the world. Not likely. Maybe in a few areas where there are lots of Taycans but otherwise, probably not.

This is kind of interesting. If I were to be designing a Porsche charging network, I'd basically just design a cross between a premium airport lounge and a dealer service waiting room. Put 4-8 DCFC chargers on a dealer lot close to the waiting building, have a nice cozy area with some tables for family, food/drink, staff 24/7 for security and support if any of the chargers break, and heck, maybe a few overnight rooms if they wanted to have some L2 chargers.

Basically, make it into the place I'd go out of my way to charge for a long road trip because it's dependable, "free" with some sort of subscription (probably building the price of it into the car), and rely on the real estate that they likely already have for this sort of thing.

They could also offer it as a service to ICE owners waiting for service, and have the latest EV models available for a quick test drive. Done right, this could be a really interesting take on what a premium charging network could be.

I'm sure it will be some variant of the already live Audi Charging Hub in Nuremberg, Germany.

Yeah, that seems to be the model that makes the most sense. The thought of reservations definitely makes me cautious though. I don't want to have to spend more time planning my trips, and having to setup multiple reservations per day for a long trip just feels like a hassle. The longer a trip is, the more helpful it is to have high quality charging in place, but even with high quality charging, longer trips are much tougher to predict arrival times.

Also, I sure hope the first thing they change is to get something that actually looks modestly comfortable. I get that you don't want people lounging for hours at a time, but is it really that much trouble to ask for a comfortable restaurant booth so you can have a bit of privacy and a bit of a workspace?

Too funny. Porsche makes a positive announcement and this forum immediately begins complaining why it’s not good enough…
There's nothing here that I'd consider complaining except for maybe the bit about L2 charging, which is a pretty valid concern, if the article is to be believed.

In shanghai there are several Porsche charging stations. A few have the fastest chargers. Most are 500v 120kw.

they are not free and sadly they charge by the visit not by consumption. Anyway, there are other chargers everywhere that you can pay by the kW.

Let's prey they don't make an arse of it as they have already ably demonstrated at Porsche Dealerships. Most are inaccessible when you need one and many aren't actually configured to enable customers to use (lack of authentication with Taycan charge card) as is the case at my dealership (WTF???).

When access is available, a diesel Cayenne is not occupying the space, and is operational the prospect of up to 270kW on these 800v is enticing. In my case (I'm sure I'm being victimised for moaning a lot about this) the units have worked once and only with the dealer's Taycan charge card (and that's after months of being installed) delivering 105kW (yeah, poor) for about 10 mins before tailing off.

Don't know what it is but Porsche should focus on engineering of cars and let other more competent organisations develop their software and take care of providing ultra fast, plentiful and reliable charging (shared with VW group and other brands).

I imagine hubs will be placed in densely populated areas so in the case of Scotland that probably means 1 and situated miles away from most Porsche owners.

Hopefully I'm 100% wrong!

the thing is that porsche forced the dealerships to install these units and many of the dealerships really don't care to facilitate charging.
the reality is that for the most part these chargers are all show and little to no go.

If executed well, this is actually a really clever idea. It gives dealerships a reason to continue to exist.

The problem is that, in the US, dealerships are seldom located in desirable locations. They are located alongside busy, multilane roads with zero crosswalks, in clusters of car dealerships with vast open parking lots, literally miles away from any sort of shops, parks, or other places I might want to spend time while my car charges. And while Porsche dealerships are quite nice as car dealerships go, I don't want to spend time in there either.

So we'd either need for dealerships to move to better locations, or we'd need very significant upgrades to the amenities they offer.

I take anything that gets more chargers into the world as long they actually work when I show up to use them…this vs. the current state of North America w/EA…

here's to actual progress - we'll see if it can happen.
