Yeah but double check as I originally paid £3k to reserve and then £2K to order. No allocation yet (GTS ST last Nov).
Thanks, I don't mind what the deposit is once there is a firm order, it just seems a bit rich to be taking a big deposit to join a wait list

There are a lot of time wasters / speculators so its a weak attempt to curtail that plus provides cashflow during the long wait!

I put down 3K, but my original order was for a Cayenne Coupe which I moved to a Taycan GTS. It stated on the order forms that the deposit amount for a Taycan is 5K, but this is my second car from this dealer so am presuming they are ok keeping it at 3K

No harm in checking to avoid disappointment. I've been buying Porsches from the same dealer for the past 20 years and always check the initial deposit / order deposit are in sync. £5K on my 4S and £5K on the GTS ST. Some dealers can be ambivalent of course!

£5K for Taycan is normal (more for other models) 100% refundable up to order lock.
There is a schedule depending on the car / model for the amount, agree it’s £5k usually for a Taycan.

On the refund that’s definitely not correct though. In the UK, a deposit (and the full amount paid) is actually refundable until 14 days after delivery under the consumer contracts regulations, if you ordered off premises (telephone / email etc). I assume pretty much everyone orders off premises now. If you don’t, do!

So if any dealer tells you it’s at lock, that’s completely wrong. Many retailers don’t understand / realise this and think ticking boxes on the spec sheet changes this - it doesn’t. I have had to educate large retailers about it before. If they haven’t told you about the 14 day cooling off period, you actually have until 12 months after delivery. If you ordered as a business rather than “consumer”, different rules may apply, I haven’t looked into it.

Of course the Tories may bin this consumer protection at some point as I think it originally came from the EU.

Interesting. What about if you order on site after a test drive? That is different I think. And presumably if returning after 13 days it has to be in showroom condition. Is there a mileage limit? Is there a grey area where you have been in, driven a car and then paid the deposit a week later on the phone? I suspect it might not be clear cut for everyone

Generally if you conclude the sale virtually (e.g. by email) you are protected, but yes, I believe there are grey areas. Re usage, the answer is obviously easy if you haven't touched it and walk away at the showroom. Certainly at lock it's obvious there are no deductions, which is the point above I was commenting on. You are right there are some rules around deduction in value if it's used. There are plenty of worked examples online.

Have you got a fully worked example? I'd been interested in the total cost on a 2 or 3 year plan. Does the provider transfer the car to you at the end of the term etc?
I have an it is the one I have. Octopus is the registered owner and there is an option to buy the car at the end of the lease, but why would you? I effectively pay £890 a month for a £100k specced RWD. That includes insurance, tax, service and a home charger installation (which I cannot have). And no deposit. The gross number is bigger but the tax I don't have to pay means that I am only paying £100 more a month for a £100k Taycan compared to my £50k BMW I had on PCP after considering tax, insurance and diesel. It's a total no brainer. I didn't even test drive a Taycan. I just said where do I sign?

If it's three year term then effectively you are gambling the car will be worth £67k or less in three years.

At least on a GTS and with order backlog likely to remain a challenge for many years, I'm not sure it would depreciate that much unless there's a cataclysmic economic crash...

But then that also could see mass redundancies.
