If Porsche could add walk away door lock and make the backup camera not so distorted, this would be the perfect car. Every time I forget to lock it or am backing into a spot, I miss my tesla. It’s the worst backup camera I’ve seen as many have discussed in the past. The quality is great but the distortion is unbearable at this price. All the hardware is there they just need a very easy software update, but I guess I can’t expect that from Porsche. Everything else about the car is perfect, and I have no regrets about it.

Backup camera, yes.

But I don’t really care for my car to lock automatically. If it had that feature, I imagine I’d turn it off.

I don’t always want the car locked and it hasn’t been an issue to lock it when I do want it locked. Forgetting to lock sounds like as much of an issue as forgetting to close the charge port. Which (for me at least) is none.

Definitely can get used to the not locking it, I just haven’t locked a car in over 6 years

Can’t you just lock it with the mobile app?

Yes, issue is solely me forgetting I have to lock it so I don’t realize I didn’t lock it. Just a habit as neither my Tesla nor BMW have ever not locked after I walk away.

I agree, if they add the locking feature I hope they provide the ability to turn it off. I'm fine with manually locking the car and, with the folding mirrors, I always have an indication that the car is locked.

On the other hand I don't have an issue with the backup camera. I do have surround view and maybe that makes a difference?

I also have surround view. Many others have commented about it in my car when I am reversing but it is the same as my test drive vehicle and photos online so is operating as designed.

I have surround view also.

I posted video of the issue with the backup camera here:

Is that not what yours look like?

Note the difference compared to my Macan in the same post.

What non-former drivers of Tesla with auto-present may not realize is how you just get used to walking away from the car without locking it (or even shutting the door). I have to force myself to remember to close and lock the doors. I also miss the door opening for me when I approach and closing when I press the brake. Yeah, it’s not necessary but it is super-convenient and this is not a track car. Now I actually have to get my lazy ass out of the car just to open and close the door for my wife rather than just touching the screen twice.

I don’t want to sound like a Luddite, but I’m not sure I’d get used to that. I still manually press the power button to turn the Taycan off every time I exit. I prefer to turn the car off and lock the door myself.

You can’t be a Luddite and own a Taycan. You might well be less lazy.

I agree with both the points you make. The back up cam is atrocious, and while the walk away lock function is nice to have, it could pose a safety hazard in some cases (dog or person in car)

The locking situation bothered me until I realized (from a post on this forum) that I can link the folding of my mirrors to locking the car. In my garage, I do NOT want to lock. In public, I simply check the mirror position to know if I have remembered to lock....

Camera is hardware related, while "walk away locking" could be done with software feature on existing hardware.
And yes, I'm still missing it even it's almost a year when I got Taycan...
