My daughter rented an awful Jeep hybrid. It would only start charging while unlocked. Does not make sense, but it is what it is !

Well, this seems to be an issue with the car itself and not with the PMCC. To verify that you might want to try charging on another AC charger if it behaves identical there.

no it's an issue with the PMCC - an EV charger should work even if the car is "dead" when plugged in - the PMCC has a flaw that when it's plugged in - it tried to talk to the car and if there is no answer it turns off also - and won't wake up when the car wakes up later...

other EVSE's do not have this problem - in fact the PMCC is the ONLY EVSE that I personally have encountered with this behavior.

This is not clear with the given details right now. When the car is off and plugged in, it could also be that the OBC and the BMS do not start up.

When the EV is plugged, the charger should wake up the OBC. It could be that the charger does it, and the EV does not respond. It could be that the car does not do it and then the EV does not know about it. Or maybe the Tesla and Kona are not following the standard correctly and hence communication is broken, or the PMCC is not following the standard correctly. But right now it is absolutely not clear who is to blame and why.

It would be great to get some more details like:
- images of the PMCC display when the EV is plugged in and when it is not. Is there any difference showing when the Kona is on/off ?
- and the same with the Taycan.
- you can log into the web interface of the PMCC as technical user and disable the PnC connection to the car. Then plug it in, in that case the communication standard being used is identical to using any other EV, like Kona or Tesla.

To see what is happening and what is the cause, more information is needed.

Not doubting the issues with the PMCC and apparent recent software update regression for charging non-Porsche EVs, but from an objective troubleshooting perspective, it’s worthwhile acknowledging the possibility of a red-herring issue with the vehicle itself.
That could be checked by borrowing another EVSE and attempting charging under the same conditions.

Appreciate these replies. My neighors guest had a Kona and it wouldn't work with my Porsche Mobile Connect...My Connect said connection established but Kona showed a red ring around charger and then went dark and wouldn't charge. He took car to other neighbor with a GM charger and it worked right away.
