There's quite a bit of discussion on this forum regarding whether the noise insulating glass affects mobile reception too much. I wondered if the impact might be country/specific. How do you find it in the UK?

I had it on my previous RWD and poor reception which I complained about. Could have been the PCM.

Same phone on current car, no insulating glass and much better. HOWEVER, don't know how much that might have to do with the updated PCM in MY22? Sorry but that probably doesn't help due to MY changes.

I asked the dealer who confirmed that it actually was worse with the insulated glass. Decided on balance to remove the option.

I don't think the insulting glass will affect mobile reception.

Reason: If your phone is linked via Bluetooth or cable to your car, it is using the external antennae of the car (and that would be isolated from such scenarios).

However, a non-paired (unlinked to car) phone in the car may likely be affected as it is using its own antenna and would be subject to all sorts of blocking signals by the metal in the car doors, roof, glass, heating elements in the rear screen, etc...

I have noise and heat insulating glass and I don't have any problems even with unpaired phones (of my passengers). I guest, it depends on the quality of the operator's signal.

Correct, on the operators signal and also a wide number of variables... and you may or may not notice any degradation.
No different to using a mobile phone in any other car or home or outside...

Have had this option with Audis and not had a problem with mobile reception here. Do Porsche do something different with their double skin glass then?

Have had my Taycan with noise insulating glass since 2021 & from driving almost 13000 miles have not found any issues. In fact so glad that I have it as do 220 mile journey on a motorway every other week.

I have an MY22 CT4 with noise / heat insulated glass. No phone reception issues in the US for me compared to previous Porsche Cayenne without, nor to current second car (Audi) without.

I use my mob phone in industrial settings in control rooms fitted with windows that have technical resistance to blast and thermal shock.

Even in build-mode (no comms / antenna systems functioning) I get signal so I don’t buy the Porsche glass is affecting the signal.

Side insulated glass will have no impact on phone reception. The heat reflecting interlayer in the windscreen *can* theoretically impact phone reception sometimes but I've not experienced any problems with it on the Taycan. (You get the "coloured" heat reflective windscreen if selecting insulated glass OR if you select Head up display.)

I have horrible reception for data in my Taycan 4S with Verizon in US. I have the insulated glass option. Living in Florida, I also added extra tint on the front windshield (with cutoffs for the black trim near the rear view mirror). I’m not sure if it is the film or the noise insulated glass but I cannot stream or attend online meetings in areas with poor reception(1-2 bars).

I can stream in those same areas in my Tesla and minivan. They both have the same film on the windshield. Makes me believe that the insulated glass is the culprit.

I am able to make phone calls in the Taycan without any issues. I’m assuming it’s a bandwidth problem with poor reception. Even the built in Apple Music app buffers a lot.

Thanks for the comments. It reckon it weakens signal strength, so if you're in a good signal area it'll be fine but if out in the sticks the noise insulating glass might be the difference between signal or not. The UK is pretty well covered so probably this affects US people more than the UK folks.

I re-added the option since 99% of the time I'll be in good signal strength areas and most of you in the UK seem happy. If I lived in the countryside I wouldn't spec it.

Someone with cell mapper on an Android handset could in theory provide a more scientific/ evidenced based opinion with two cars in the same location back to back.
