I've had my RWD since May 1. At that time I watched/read all the steps for setting up a timer so that I could take advantage of cheaper electric rates after midnight. And I also have the charge program set to charge up to 85%.

Turns out there isn't a discounted electric rate so I'd like to get rid of the timer - I just want it to charge to 85% starting whenever I plug in the car.

Is there an easy way for me to do that without having to re-read all the charging instructions? Thanks!

Yep.

Just disable the timer and enable a profile - General (or location based or both) and set to 85%.

I deleted the timer in my Connect app and left the profile alone and enabled. However when I plugged the car in, it shows the charging in Paused state. Any idea what I did wrong?

What is the current SOC and what profile / timer is active?

Check also that the changes have been reflected in your PCM.

I still don't know what your SOC is when you connected your EVSE. If your profile has a minimum charge setting less than the current SOC then it will pause as you already have that (or greater) level of charge.

If your profile minimum is set to 85% and your battery SOC is 50% then charging will commence as soon as you connect your EVSE and then pause once 85% is reached.
