Is it not a bit ironic that Porsche's 2023 solution to getting better range on it's more expensive models is to turn dual-motor Taycans into slightly-heavier and significantly more complex RWD Taycans (by default and under normal driving conditions)?

It says normal and range drive mode not conditions. In my experience it is only active when driving steady speed accelerating more than a little bit / up hill and the front engine wakes up again.

Tesla started doing this years ago - it's an effective and powerful technique and allows you to have the advantages of AWD but not the consumption cost when it's not necessary - and since EV motors can be re-engaged in milli-seconds (vs. mechanical differential) you can seamlessly move between RWD and AWD with virtually no impact on driving experience - and improve the range of the vehicle - it's one of many many many advantages of a well engineered EV that is much more difficult in an ICE design.

Oh, OK ... so that's similar to turbo behavior on my MR2. I was thinking that you had to engage Sport mode manualy sort of like turning on/off Eco mode.

Thanks for that info. I was really wondering about how this works in practice.

The power distribution screen on the central display. When driving constant speed no power goes to the front wheels.
How does one get to this screen? You'd think i know after driving it for the last 5 months but im too excited to play around with the screens and i just drive!

Agreed but how do you know that the front axle is really decoupled or just not giving any power ?

Hi everyone, I’m waiting for the delivery of my RWD, somehow can’t write much until I have a real experience about this car. I live in Zurich.

the journalists who wrote this article should consider doing the same: when you have nothing to say, keep quiet. we will need some real experience and feedback and not a simple rewording of the Porsche press release. I did not learn a thing. your experiences as users are much more insigthful.

I guess we have to trust the screen and Porsche engeneers on that. Don’t know how to prove it.

I ask that because I didn't notice a big consumption improvement since I did the uPdate ...

Whenever I see car reviewers like these who know nothing about the technical aspect of an EV, I'm always a little skeptical.

These guys clearly don't know how regenerative braking works on the Taycan and lists the lack of one pedal driving as a fault lol. Taycan has one of the most powerful regen braking systems out there with peak regen over 250kw. Teslas max out around 70kw ?
Not a criticism but how do you know this? I would be interested in reading about it.

We also have an Audi Q4. It has paddles to adjust the regeneration in 3 steps. Without it sails. Level 1 is a bit stronger like the Taycan. Level 3 is very strong, so the brake lights up.
I would like that for the Taycan.
