I do not have the wifi enabled charger and when I went in for the big update, I took the charger out of the car so they could not mess with it. My service documents had the campaign and the tech wrote no charger provided. The dealer never asked.

I followed @daveo4EV advice when preparing for the car delivery and bought a ChargePoint Homeflex. The Porsche charger is in the trunk incase I was somewhere and needed it.
wondering/hoping Amazon or someplace will have a "black Friday" deal on one of these chargers. If anyone sees such an offer please let me know. Thanks

Yeah I noticed they have gone up quite a bit in price!

The dealer did the charger update and never explained what the downgrade to the charger was. Received a letter today explaining the 50% reduction in charging capability. I to had a 50 amp circuit installed. It is now taking me twice as long to charge my car. I agree Porsche needs to replace all the chargers if defective vs asking us to accept a 50% reduction in charging capability.
The other point, is that with the sticker they added, they indicate that if you operate at 100% there is a risk of fire.

So this is a bit more than just that there is a reduction. For me, I generally charge overnight at even lower power than 20A anyway, but for those few times I need to charge at 40A, they are saying I am risking a fire.

That is clearly unacceptable.

Forgot to mention Porsche also told me never charge the car at home to 100 percent unless taking a road trip. Maybe time to look at the Mercedes EV. Can’t wait for future updates from Porsche. E.g don T drive over 60 mph may cause battery to catch on fire. Can’t wait for the next update to come lol

The not charging to 100% each night is to preserve the health of the battery. Charging to 85% is sufficient for daily driving and is to keep the battery healthy. Mercedes should tell you the same thing.

You can do it if you like, but the battery will degrade quicker over time. Go look at your iPhone battery health (as most people just charge it while sleeping). My 2 year old iPhone 12 Pro Max says Battery health max capacity is 83%. Not a big deal on a $1,200 phone, but I would not want my Taycan degraded that fast.

I’ve written my Congressman. I’ll let you know what he says.
he will say nothing unless you also included a check bigger than the one he gets from PCNA/VW and their lobbyist.

Received this response to my letter from Porsche NA by phone and email:

"Per our conversation today; Charging the vehicle over 20 amps is a safety issue.

The engineers are currently working on a solution and the WMP2 campaign is a temporary fix."

This implies that Porsche NA intends to resolve any safety issue and provide full 40 AMP compatibility to the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect. When? I have no idea.

Interesting - going to take delivery of my Taycan soon and wondering if I should wait to buy a 3rd party EVSE that can provide full charging speed, or wait to see if there's any resolution on Porsche's PMCC (mostly only if they provide a new one that has full 40A charging)

I was told by Porsche Marin that the overheating problem is seen mostly in hot climates like southern Florida, etc. I have to manually adjust the charging speed on the PMCC from the default of 20 amps to 40 amps. So far no issues.

This has been a total "nonissue" for me. i have the PB+ and the charger that came at no extra cost with the vehicle. I manually changed the setting from 100% to 50% and charge at night. The charging begins at midnight and I have 85% charge by 9AM (I don't need the car any sooner than that). I usually charge when the battery reaches 20-25% remaining.

I did notice that the outlet had minor damage from the heat so I am glad I caught it in time.

I wonder how the guy is doing that is trying to organize the class action lawsuit.

The Porsche Mobile Charger Connect I think is about $1,200 (and it now only supports 20 AMP instead of the published 40 AMP specification (until they fix it). I suggest you check BestBuy.com for the Tesla compatible charger for $550. In my experience the Wi-Fi functionality of the charging device is irrelevant. Your Porsche App will report the cars charging status.

Maybe I am missing something but since this is a non-issue for many owners why would a new owner want to sink another $500+ into a device before even taking delivery and trying out the charger that comes for free?

See my post above. I am in San Diego and the 40 amp charging rate started to melt my outlet. I suggest you check yours from time to time. We don't need any more Taycans catching fire.
