Hi! I just got the email from Porsche NA for my Taycan CT4S, and now it’s time to lock the build. A little bit about me. I currently daily a Model X Plaid, and this will replace that. I live in Chicago, and have a daily commute of only about 10 miles. Mostly city surface streets. But I do long range trips fairly often and would be using the car for that. I know the non-tesla charging network can be challenging, and I am willing to sign up for that challenge, because honestly i want an EV thats not Tesla. :) This is my first Porsche, so just learning now. Also of note, I have other cars on order, and I am not planning to keep this Taycan long term (it could change!). I am estimating i will have it 12 - 18 months or so max. I mention that because resale/ depreciation are important to me.

Here is my build (I plan to do ALK as a subscription via the connected store). I kept seeing guidance to try and keep the options <30% of the MSRP. So i tried to adhere to that.

ORIGINAL BUILD CODE
http://www.porschecode.com/PP2LEJC1

UPDATED BUILD CODE, BASED ON THIS DICUSSION
http://www.porschecode.com/PPW18YR4

Here are my main questions
  • Color
    • I think the white will have a great storm trooper look, but the mamba green keeps calling to me, but I worry about the resale. Would one be better on trade than the other?
  • For the performance package
    • Do most go for it? I am most interested in just Rear Wheel Steer and the Sport Chrono Package. But I was on the fence on the sports sounds.
    • Do you think i would get the value back out of the package when traded in?
  • Insulated Glass
    • Anyone been able to do a comparison. is it noticeable on sound and heat? I have it on the build, as I like a quiet cabin if possible.
  • Full leather
    • I skipped the full leather interior, as I thought i could use the funds to get more tech. For those with the standard black interior, are you happy?
  • Is there anything I have on the build that you have found not worth it?
Thanks all for the help. I am excited for the change. Now I am trying to soak up as much information as possible!

If you're concerned about resale, just get the premium pack, rear axle steering, 400v/150kw charger, 4+1, heated steering wheel, acc and that's it. There are other things like roof rails, but I can't imagine them to impact resale that much.

Thanks for that insight on the must have items vs the nice to have ones! Yeah, some of the items are for me. I think I will Think out some of the performance package after all.

I see you have a MG! Do you love it? Any regrets on the color?

I got all of the options on your list. None are helpful for resale but I enjoy them all and would do them again. The premium package is the baseline expectation for resale, the rest puts your money at risk.

I like it very much, but I think that other people love it more. I drive on the weekends, on days off, etc, not a daily. I find that it always have at least one person each day asking me about the car and commenting about the color.

Sport chrono is a must for 4S and up IMO. The ability to switch drive modes in an instant with the air suspension is primo.

where in Chicago are you? I’m in the ravenswood area with a black CT4 and a GTS ST on the way in white.

How strong and powerful is the massage seat function. I just test drove the Lucid Air, and that massage function was incredible. Much stronger and more powerful than anything I have experienced from BMW.

I am in the west loop! What made you swap up into the GTS? Was it mainly the power of the CT4? The plaid has finally showed me, that in the mission for this car, I don’t need as much power. :) Just enough to keep it fun, and romps around lower wacker and some other stretches in the city.

How are you optioning your GTS ST?

Your Porsche code looks comprehensive to me. I don't see options missing that are often overlooked. Remote parking assist is a questionable option in my mind, but it comes with technology package. Good luck.

It’s adjustable (4 or 5 levels) from very light to pretty strong but nothing like a massage chair. My wife turns it on every time she gets in the car.

I’d been on a waiting list for 14 months for the GTS ST. I love the ST body style. Had a model 3, then a Rivian, and after the Rivian I couldn’t go back to Tesla and found a nicely/heavily optioned CT4 out of state for MSRP that I snagged.

The GTS is pretty driver centric, I hate the hud on my car and a lot of the tech stuff is pointless to me. ALK on this car is really annoying in the Midwest because on long stretches of straight highway it is dinging every 15-30 minutes to keep my hands on the wheel even though it’s firmly on there, the torque sensitivity really needs to be tweaked.

I found that I didn’t really NEED RWS like some suggest, I can squeeze into my condo garage just fine, but I was able to squeeze a raptor too, so idk about a west loop one.

Either way, ALK and the hud are really the only two annoying options to myself. To others they are must haves.

Very curious, what is the story with the Rivian? It’s been on my list…

Company car, had a reservation, got one of the first ones and loved it. Such an incredible value, but I’m a wagon guy so I gave the Rivian to my business partner who is using it to shuttle Mountain bikes in the PNW and live that Rivian lifestyle.

Loved the Rivian enough that I put in an order for an R1S for the wife after owning the truck for a week. As much as I do enjoy the Taycan, I’m not lining up to get my name in on a EV Macan if that makes sense. Rivian hit it out of the park.

This is awesome to hear. I have both an R1T and R1S on order as well, but I don’t expect them for another year or so.

I actually was going to take delivery of a Lucid and was confirming my order when I got the email from Porsche. The timing couldn’t have been better.

I like your style on vehicles. I just got a TRX as well, so you are not the only one trying to juggle fun cars in small condo garages.

Have you road-tripped your Taycan? How has it been on long trips if so?

Congrats on the build slot. I have the exact car you’re planning to build. Every performance option, insulated glass, full leather and of course Mamba Green. Would not change a thing. Here’s a pic. Everyone stops me to comment on the color and the cars gets countless thumbs ups when driving around.
