For all the people who love it, I wonder how many of you have stood outside while someone drove by you with it on. It sounds so phony and it’s fairly obvious that it’s a speaker noise and not the drivetrain.

The first time a Taycan drove by me with it on, it was so loud and fake that it just screamed ‘look at me!’ To me it’s akin to people who think the loud pipes on their moto makes them cool, when most people just think they’re a douche canoe. It’s the brap brap brap of EVs.

If no one has experienced it, how can people vote about it?
At the time there weren't even EVs with sound options anyway, let alone the sound a Taycan makes...
I'm curious about your motivation behind your statement earlier though. ?

I drive with the sound on 99% of the time. It really adds a lot to the experience in my mind. The only time I turn it off is when I’m on roadtrips on the interstate and I just want to listen to my music without any other distractions (which is great because the Taycan legitimately cocoons you from outside noises).

The first thing I do when I get in is turn on the auto region and the sport sound. It really adds something to the drive. I also drive a 911 4S Targa with sports exhaust, so I think I'm so used to having a sound correspond with the power.

Projects of Taycan's magnitude tend to have thorough diligence on market behavior and holding surveys or secret focus groups prior to launch is not unbelievable. It’s a common practice in business and product development to do target demographic surveys, albeit with smaller sample sizes, to collect valuable feedback. There are ways to gather market information before the full product is released, mainly to mitigate costly mistakes during development.

For something as divisive as the electric sport sound as seen with this very thread, I doubt it came as a surprise to Porsche. The very reason it came as an option says a lot. Well-thought-out products are delivered into the market already knowing what the customer wants and needs, hardly the other way around. How else are investment returns, sales projections, and RD budgets calculated?

I'm not sure if I already replied a few months back, but currently I never use it, unless I am in a crowded parking lot. Too many times pedestrians just walked in front of me because of how silent the Taycan is without the sports sound on.

Pretty much everything comes as an option, that's how we end up going way above the starting price

My tesla didn't make any sounds i was ok with it.
My EV motorbike makes a lot more sound than the Taycan (same tech as formula E so far from silent)
The Taycan, doesn't try to mimick an ICE sound (which would be stupid) and is distinctive enough to have its own "beauty", i think they really nailed it on this one

I only use it during spirited driving, basically when it turns itself on in Sport+ mode.

For me, sports sound is the best option I chose next to 4 wheel steering.
