Hello people!

This is for the UK/Europe market.

Been following the Forum for a bit now with some great topics.

I'm not new to Porsche but purchased by first EV - CT 4S just before Xmas having seen so many positive YouTube videos and articles.

I still have some range anxiety which has not been an issue yet as not done a single journey over 120 miles.

About to go on a family holiday which will be 300+ miles each way and just wanted to see what people recommend for long journeys in terms of Sat Nav.

Is the Porsche Nav the best or any recommendations for an app which is better for charging points etc.

Waze has been preference - you can guess why ??

Welcome your views.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Waze for cams and traffic ?

In addition to the built-in navigation/charge finding (pretty good) you can try the ABRP (a better route planner) app and also Zap-Map.

Enjoy half term!

Of course its down to personal choice and normally I also tend to use Waze, except for longer journeys where I know I will need to charge. In those instances I use the Porsche SatNav as my preference for charging is always Ionity (for rate and speed reasons) but also, because 1) the nav tells you where they are, 2) it offers to put the stop(s) into your route; 3) it prepares the battery for the stop (so you maximise the charging rate and 4) because it tells you how many chargers are available to use before you get there...

If you're new to (or don't use it much) the porsche satnav / charge planner (like me), be a bit careful with it. Make sure its not planning the route for you to end up at a destination with 5% charge via a slowish charger for 15 minutes. You need to go into the PCM and alter your target arrival soc to what you'd like.
I'd echo the recommendation to go to Ionity as well and also caution that not all of the other brand fast chargers are the porsche satnav. Quick look on zap map with charging filter set to 150+ maybe worth while before you set off. Kind of depends where you're going.

Also you may need to force it to go to the charger of your choice by setting it as your destination. I guess you may be able to do that via a waypoint (but i haven't figured out how to!).

I prefer to use the built in sat nav as I prefer having the dashboard integration, and other info like est arrival state of charge, plus generally I think it looks better. If it's a trip I've not done before I often cross check the route with Google maps to see if it's taking me a dumb way, but if it's all main roads it's usually fine. In cities and down back roads Google maps/Waze will be more reliable most of the time.

Porsche NAV is fine but remember to ensure that your Porsche Charging Planner is active to calculate where and for how long you need to charge.

The only mild limitation in my experience is that the database used for NAV to pinpoint EVSEs is not always up to date.

Workaround is to use the Google search function within NAV to locate other EVSEs along your route and set that as your destination.

Using Waze and others will not directly integrate with NAV and so preconditioning of your battery prior to charging won't be possible.

Route planning is also possible from the My Porsche App but here you will find even fewer EVSEs.

Traveling 300 miles should be a no brainer unless traveling off grid.

I've been around Ireland using only NAV and had no issue locating EVSEs - finding the EVSE in use on arrival can be a problem.

Note also that when you see an EVSE listed on the map and it shows as 3/3 does not mean there are 3 DC CCS cables free - it is likely only 1 and the other 2 being Chademo and AC on a single EVSE.

As above, Porsche Nav with a Google sense-check. 300 miles should be one stop - preferably 180-200 miles in so that you get to your destination with 100+ miles in the tank. Just make sure you have Plan A and Plan B with some buffer, but not worth stressing over.

Done quite a few uk trips now. Put almost 9k miles since last July. I use the Porsche nav with a Zap Map check if using chargers. I’ve considered getting Zap Map premium but haven’t bothered yet.

That does throw me off too. A peculiar way of displaying matters.

Me too. CarPlay integration might be OK.

Wonder if anyone has tried it? It’s a very useful app so having it integrated would be handy.

It is good but not perfect either. Timely updates are an issue too.

Other manufacturers appear to be going down the integration of Google for mapping integration and expect Porsche will do the same.

Are you talking about the premium version Winge?

No just the free one.

I've come across some instances where ZapMap doesn't have an EVSE in its database.

Bottom line is that there will always be a lag in new EVSEs coming on line and their details being propagated across the plethora of apps and in-car Navs.

I have used ZapMap premium, didn't bother renewing... I should be getting Taycan soon, so no hands on experiernce but the guys in 'Out Of Spec' motoring suggest the Porsche Planner is the best out there (includes road trips across europe).
