My very first Porsche has been ordered now for 2 weeks. I ordered the RS 21" alloys, and initially asked if it could be delivered with winter rubber. They then advised against this and linked me to the Porsche Taycan wintersets.

Currently I understood that:
  • There is actually no porsche approved winter rubber in this size
  • Switching winter/summer rubber (as I have been doing forever) on the same rim yearly is bad for your tires
  • Coming from my current car (bmw), they told me I needed BMW approved rubber (with a star) because I have an xdrive now. Is this a thing with porsche?
Are these assumptions correct?

If they are correct, I'm considering buying non-porsche winter alloys + rubber. non-brand alloys are a first for me, so my 2nd question, specifically for western-europeans is - where can I buy this? Reliable online shops? What are the good brands - meaning build as strong as brand alloys?

Yes that’s the reality. There are no approved 21” winter tires, only 20” and 19” (at least that’s what I was told as well).
Porsche needs special N0 indexed tires, otherwise say goodbye to your warranty.
When I had to change mine I bought 20” Aero Rim and Tire package from the dealer.

You are correct. I asked for the same and they told me no way. I’m going for a winter set via their TEquipment. Less hassle but quite expensive unfortunately.

Mine (CT4S-21) was delivered on 21-inch winter tyres by my AD. As previous posts they are not N-Rated - however load rates etc matches the weight of the car.
Probably my AD had no other options than delivering with non N-rated tyres, as w+s tyres are mandatory in Sweden between Dec-March. My delivery was Dec 2021.

Too many to list. Includes a MY23 Taycan RWD

I would also try https://www.wheelpoint.nl/

They're really great advising regarding load indexes, ETs, etc. (I would also recommend GMP Italia rims as they have all certifications for their rims specifically for the Taycan)

Or just wait until I get my car and I'll sell my 19'' set cheap

That practice is illegal in the US, there's a specific act against this. In Europe YMMV but Porsche would have a hard time arguing that the PCM went haywire because you don't have N0 rated tyres.

As long as you use the same load rating they won't say a thing.

I just mounted Michelin's Alpine 5 on my '21 rims ... Perfect, no issues .
I asked my dealer if this was ok and they said no problem .

Same here. Michelin's Alpine 5 on my '21 Mission E rims.
No complaints. It costs me 1800 euro (Oponeo.nl) for 4 wintertires.

Do you mean that you bought tires online and then had a tire center do the switch?

Check what your local dealer says.
It is very difficult for any car manufacturer to argue a case of lost warranty for not using 'manufacturer specific tyres'.

Tyres should be be rated as per manufacturer specifications - but they do not need to be the same prescribed tyre.
The star/N0/ etc.. specs is a manufacturer recommendation and not absolute tyre rating.
As I understand.... the absolute tyre rating in the EU is the size/ speed/load index specs... and not the */N0/etc.

Check with your dealer and insurance.

I had a case where in the insurance company was playing 'silly buggers' stating that I had to have BMW * rated tyres for my M4. I asked them to provide me a manufacturer written statement about the same - and then I was informed that as long as the tyre is rated as per the spec on the door jamb, it is fine.

It is the same as fuel, lots of cars have 'recommended fuel specs' written on the fuel cap, but it is a recommendation.
e.g. On my BMW M4 - the fuel cap says 'BMW recommends Shell RON99' but it clearly specifies 'minimum RON95'.

I see, makes total sense. Then I guess I was made a fool, could've just bought 21" winter Michelins and called it a day instead of throwing away 8k$ on a winter set.

question then remains, is it a disadvantage to dosummer / winter rubber switch twice a year
