I know there is no kerbside view but as a feature is better than the 3d virtualization you are getting.

Personally, I find parking and manoeuvring is a doddle. Cameras work great. We have narrower parking spaces in UK as a rule.

I guess you could use your auto parking feature.
I never use the auto park feature. I should have thought this through more. Let me explain. In theory, the auto feature will get you into spaces that are difficult to maneuver into. But would you want to park so tightly next to other cars? I know I can’t control a car coming in next to me after I park, but at least I cannot invite a ding to the side of my car by parking right next to someone at the outset.
Also, I did try the feature once with plenty of room to spare just to see how it worked. My god, how fast that thing was maneuvering,! Not that anything could go wrong and I couldn’t respond fast enough. So, with regret, I forgo the auto park experience.

Cameras/sensors are a joke.
I mangled up the back of my GTS a couple of weeks after taking delivery...

Hit a lamp post while reversing, images attached for amusement....

It's the only think I dislike about the Taycan. I'm used the the quality of the BMW surround and reversing cams (and auto stopping if about to reverse into something).

Yea, my #1 complaint about the Taycans is the backup camera system.

PS)There is an “auto-stop” feature. Porsche calls it “maneuvering assist” IIRC.

Is there? It's never worked for me....I couldn't see anything in the safety settings that wasn't enabled...

Do you see this icon on the screen? It disables this feature (which I have to do every time I pull into my garage or else it keeps hitting the brakes hard).

Oooh! There it is. I checked manual but couldn't understand where it was.
I'll look for that icon tomorrow, I don't actually remember seeing that though...

Thank you.

Here’s a photo showing where you can enable the feature …

I definitely don't have that. I checked in that menu an hour ago....
Why would I not have that?
No idea. I assumed it was standard on all Taycans.

You might have to enable it. IIRC the enable checkbox was together with the rest of the assist features.

EDIT: see the above post #36, I replied without refreshing the thread, didn't see @Hirschaj post showing where it is.

You mean if I knew this was there and had it on, it wouldn't have let me drive into the 15 cu. ft. chest freezer?

Very likely yes. When it engages, it does it hard, so initially I thought I was actually hitting the curb or whatever I was getting close to, but the backup camera was lagging, but no, it actually stops for you. Not sure if it's 100% guaranteed, but it does work. On the other hand, I cannot park in my garage with this feature on, I park too close to the wall (shelves actually). Lucky I can have it enabled and disable it on-demand right on the backup screen.

I still don’t see the issue. While the picture doesn’t show the pole, the sensor is telling you something is there. Is that not enough or would you keep driving even though a proximity sensor said to stop?

Ever heard the story of “the boy who cried wolf”? The US sensor is the boy in this story. Read the above posts, post #21 in particular.

Porsche expects people to drive their cars but provides systems for additional support. On the hand, other Tesla wants the car to do the driving for you and may occasionally ask for some help.

I drive a Porsche for a reason :like:

As I was playing around with the backup monitoring, I realized a couple of things:
  1. I think it's meant for people who keep at least a foot and half buffer zone on each side of the car. When I see the backup camera lines, those lines appear to be touching the cars between which I am pulling in, yet there is a foot and half on each side of my car. The space showes up in the top level view, but the ultrasonic sensor lines obscure it. If the car next to me is red, it gets even harder to use.
  2. The 360 top view works amazing as on a flat surface, like driving between painted lines. Replace painted lines with a fence, or a parked car, and it's no longer great. Perhaps all the engineering demos were using painted lines, no 3D objects near the car.
