Indeed. I have the same feeling.
It shows Porsche does not take software quality serious.

For me it is one of the reasons to not buy a Porsche again. It is my first Porsche. I am happy with it. And I will keep it for many years. But it will also be my last Porsche. The general quality level is just not aligned with the price tag, in my opinion.

And you see they do not even try to be top quality. The car is 3 years on the market and the car-app infrastructure is still very poor.
This is not about cost. Compared to the price of the car, this is not a high cost to do it right. It is about lacking the mentality to try to make a top quality product.
I must have a different car and app apparently.
In the first year there were some issues but now it works perfectly fine.
I really can't relate to your rant.
Car is performing beautifully, as expected from Porsche.
The service is excellent, no problem either.
I'm sorry to hear you have a different experience. ??‍♂

Did you use the Tesla app before ?
If you do, you will see this is at another level.

Did you drive a Porsche over the Tesla ? That’s another level and then some!

Tesla are a tech company and Porsche make cars.

Put your phone down and go drive the car!

Porsche has a profit margin of 18%.
There should have been budget allocated for a decent app.
Not enough volume. This is why a Toyota will have a better app than a Ferrari.

Ignorance is bliss. I thought the Model S with sport suspension drove amazing for a 5000lb EV sedan, until I drove a Taycan. Don't ever try using the Tesla app if you want to continue thinking the Porsche one is great.

Apples to oranges.

I suspect the Porsche app is the way it is because of fear. Porsche went the safe route: No direct access to the Internet (also explains why only in Russia you can connect the car to the internet) so we won't ever be able to directly connect to the car.

Car talks to porsche servers only, our app talks to porsche servers. Very similar to what Blackberry had in the old days.

I can't say I agree or disagree, it's a design choice. Technologically, we can't even compare a Tesla (one centralized cpu) to a Porsche (a myriad of systems/modules talking to each other). We can argue ad nauseum which one is the better in theory (in practice, Tesla's just works. Doesn't make it better though) but in the end, it comes down to: personal fulfillment

I have several friends who drive to go from A to B. The goal is reaching B. They want to reach there comfortably and without fuss. They wouldn't care if it was a KIA, a Renault or Mercedes. Cars don't really interest them as it's a mean to reach a goal.

I assume a typical Porsche driver wants more and the "more" is about the car and the driving experience itself. The car, not the apps (or lack of them) nor the technical gimmicks is what is important for the driving experience.

Ask yourself this: would you get up from your sofa at 10 or 11pm, grab your car keys and just go drive for an hour on some twisty road nearby without any destination just enjoying the ride, the noise, the feelings and return home with a smile on your face?

If the answer is yes, you don't really need a tesla app, do you?

PS: this was written by someone who is in the IT field, loves gimmicks, dreams of AI and got a big grin on his face when he first saw the green pulsating dot on his myporsche app: Not because he thought the app is cool or that he could see the car's status but because his Taycan was alive...

I’d rate the app experience somewhere between mediocre and pure garbage. It doesn’t work very well most of the time from my location. Glad yours meets your expectations.

agreed..but I still prefer excellent & best looking (Porsche’s) hardware with lousy software compared to better (Tesla’s) software

Haven;t seen details in Tesla app…but i’ve seen Model X and Y from inside.
And there’s no such software that would make me to replace my CT with S or X plaid.

A 100keuro car in 2023 should have a high quality app too.
The more exclusive the car manufacturer, the less they have to spend on software due to low volumes. Check out some of the seven digit priced cars from exclusive manufacturers.

I'm just stating mine works perfectly fine.
Where exactly did I state it was "great"?
It does what is should do, nothing more, nothing less.
Connectivity is fine now, sending timers works fine, pre-cool/pre-warm works fine, SoC works fine, charging status works fine, location works fine, sending destinations to the car works fine so what else did I ignore?

I've had BMWi app before (6 years ago) and that was not as comprehensive as the Porsche app but worked fine as well.

What else are we going to compare?
Opel? Doesn't even have timers.
I'm sure the Tesla app works great but that wasn't my point, was it?

I know.
It's defenately a location issue cuz I see a lot of US members complain about the app.
I'm just glad mine works fine in the Netherlands.
It has nothing to do with ignoring bad software, it just works.
I'm sorry. ??‍♂

PS It's kinda funny I have to defend myself here cuz something is working like it should...?

There are two aspects to this:
  1. Reliability of existing functionality: Mine doesn't always even do what it's intended to do e.g. I try to unlock the car via the app, the app spins for while, a minute later the car unlocks, app still spins, another minute or two later the app says if failed to unlock the car (which was not true! - that I would call bad software). Another example would be the app randomly telling me my windows are open - no rhyme or reason, it just does it a few days, then it fixes itself, even if the windows in question haven't been touched. It also tells me my car is unlocked most of the time I start it, but if I wait a bit, it updates to locked, still not a great experience thinking the car is unlocked.
  2. Missing functionality: The app does things in archaic ways. Why does it take a minute to unlock the car via the app in the first place? Why does it not give current car status (locked/unlocked, current cabin temp, seat/steering wheel heating options, windows/door status)?
For you apparently reliability is not an issue, and you've never experienced a better app so you're not missing any functionality.
