Stupid question

I have several American friends complaining about lack of GSM support i.e they live in places where they have to use ancient CDMA (abandoned in Europe 20 years ago) because they can't get proper GSM signal. I think it was Verizon that was CDMA. Not really sure about this point.

Could this be somehow related to how porsche app behaves in the USA?

For you apparently reliability is not an issue,
You are not good at conclusions.

and you've never experienced a better app so you're not missing any functionality.
So basically you're saying I'm lucky for not having owned a Tesla.
I totally agree there mate. ? ??

Ha ha, "will be available in the near future" means "we have no committed plans to do this, but might do it one day".
It's hard to be certain, but the way it's worded here, specifically usage of the words "will" and "near future", it's likely that the feature is at least planned, and possibly even actively being worked on.

Unplanned stuff tends to use weasel words like "may" instead of "will", "future" without "near", and other formulations that cannot be parsed as a commitment. This sentence on the other hand is stated as a fact, "will be available", and companies tend to be very careful with such statements.

The weaseling, or ambiguity, was inserted by saying " The widgets will be available in the near future. " -> this means some widgets, not necessarily the same ones as before. That said "near future" is also ambiguous. Check out lawsuits against Tesla and their "in the near future" promises and how they hold up in court.

Why? You said it does everything you expect, so no issues with app reliability? Or did I misunderstand you? Or were you expecting reliability issues, so it is as (un)reliable as you expected?

I still think it means those widgets are probably coming soon (and Porsche is not Tesla, far from it), but no use discussing, we will see.

Personally, I miss the Watch app much more. I hope that's planned.

Lack of connectivity can perhaps explain some of the issues, but 3G has been mostly shut down in the US. Also, I have an LTE femto-cell from Verizon which provides my car with full bars while in the garage, yet I still experience the same app functionality issues.

Was CDMA ever a thing in Europe? I don't remember that... since the early 90s, Europe was using GSM, which was invented in Europe. It was then also brought to the US, but continued to coexist with CDMA for a while. Before that, most cell phone service was analog in Europe.

Anyway, yeah, GSM and CDMA are both ancient at this point (over 30 years old!), and some places have abandoned it. The Taycan seems to uses LTE though, so should not be the issue.

You've just confirmed my statement. ??

I'm just glad I don't have to focus on an app but on things that really matter: the car.
Best car I've ever owned. ?
I'm also glad that I'm not an ex-Tesla owner so I don't have to be a dramaqueen on a Taycan forum.
I just hope Porsche can address the issues people experience, I feel sorry for them.
But then again, the car makes up for that, oh yes sir! ?

Most phones don't even support 5g so very much doubt that. But where you have 5g, you certainly have 4g+, 4g, 3g etc.
I think you mean there's no 5G netwerk support in your contract cuz most phones do support 5G (mine is already 3 years old, Motorola Moto Z3 Play and does support 5G)

3G is phased out already in the Netherlands.
My i8 used to have 3G so I'm curious if new owners have connectivity with 2014+ cars as the old BMWi app was great (although not that comprehensive), and that was 5 years ago...

Forgot to add: while my Taycan was driving back to me from the dealer after the uPdate, I was able to track it.
Refresh rate was about 5-10 seconds.
It was pretty cool to see your own car coming back to you, lol! ?
