Just based on pictures since it’s not released yet.
It also has a T-slot groove on the bottom so I’m expecting it’s going to be pretty straightforward to bolt on our bars.

Gotcha. I am hoping the existing bolt set you provided with the 1up racks will fit on this rack. I guess I will wait to hear from you, go to RackAttack when they have them in stock.

thanks again!

This was a one day drive from Denver to Idaho Falls with the rack and a large electric mt. bike on the rear in the beginning of August. There is an impact, but if you are on major highways in the western half if the US it is not a big deal since there are EA chargers every 125 to 150 miles apart.

Thanks for the info. Do you have experience without the hitch on similar routes, for comparison purposes?

On a long roadtrip in August I was floating around 2.7-3.0 mi/kWh without a hitch and able to pull off some 200 mile segments which helped minimize total number of stops. Would ideally plan a straight shot over one day (Dallas to Steamboat) vs needing to stop overnight.

@bsclywilly have you checked out the Kuat rack in person yet to see if we can get it to fit on the bars? From the site it looks super solid. I look the look as well.
@bsclywilly

Do you guys know if anyone purchased one of these units - quite curious as to fit on our bars i.e. will it work seamlessly and w/o modification or would we need new longer bolts etc. ?

I will say the current racks are ca 14-15 lbs each vs these Kuats that when fully assembled range from 23-26 lbs each, so if using two you're adding up to 24 lbs added weight back there.

However the one touch release system is very sexy and I may yet plunge in :) They're currently asking $498+tax per unit.

Theyre not shipping until “spring 2023”. I can guarantee they’ll fit though. I think likely the 1up hardware will work but if not it’s a few bucks to find appropriate size hardware. The mounting concept is identical with 1up.

Alternatively, Kuat is also coming out with a 2” round bar mounting kit. It won’t be as quick to assemble as the carriage bolts but for a third rack option or if you want to custom space the racks on our bars they will work too.

I saw the weight spec is 22lbs for the Piston SR vs 14lb for the 1up.

Yeah saw the round bar accessory too but not for me and agree should be a straightforward swap when available - the 22lb weight for the SR actually varies depending on what spec sheet you look at on their site - another page has it ‘fully assembled’ coming in at 26 lbs but maybe a typo - had not seen the delayed shipping just that you could purchase so indeed a ways out.

What are folks here doing for storage of your 1up roof racks?

I purchased a third 1up roof rack for my Willy Bars. I'm looking for a tidy and accessible way to store them. I see that 1up have some nice storage accessories for the trailer-hitch mounted racks, but nothing appropriate for the roof racks.

Yes, I could just use shelving, of course. I also have slat wall to which I can attach large hooks - but seeing 1up's storage accessories makes me wonder if there's a more tidy and sturdy option for the roof racks.

Just got back from a week long mountain biking trip on the trails west of Las Vegas. The weather was great and my Willy bars worked great, as usual.

I can usually bust out a Denver to Vegas in 12 hours or so, but it takes a little longer since the bike on the back messes with aerodynamics and negatively affects range. I needed to spend an extra 10 minutes or so charging at each of the 5 stops I made between Denver and Las Vegas. Other than that the charging experience was perfect, and the drive uneventful.

I too have slat wall and works perfectly for me - minimal space use and no need for bulky shelving.

Alternately if these advisories bug the heck out of you :), you can add inline/soldered load resistors to mimic incandescent loads and nullify the advisories - resistors attached either externally to the trailer plug (for cooling) or embed internally as @TaycanCook demonstrated here #22 .

Finally, whilst all I had were the advisory notices caused by lower load LEDs vs incandescent bulbs Taycancook apparently had an ACC error too - can't figure out as yet why this occurs as we have the exact same parts! He thus added load resistors to nullify all these minor errors including the ACC error.

Again, I decided in the end not to bother with adding load resistors as three clicks is a super simple solution in my case and the setup is that much simpler - but again, just a heads-up.

Cheers, C.
Finally put the rack to use last week and found that I also had the ACC error when the trailer lights were connected. I'm going to add the load resistors (I have them). Lights did work, just no ACC which was annoying on the highway.

Really like the 1up racks and the wills bars. A nice clean solution.
