I went to PSL last week and the two chargers were out of service so went to Tesla. Thought I'd try again but phone in advance. It transpires in order to prevent non Porsches charging they switch them off. You have to go in a request one to be turned on. Turns out not only did they have a lot of non Porsches an Addison Lee driver used to regularly charge his VW and bent it so bad that he eventually broke the cable. That was the red line and now red chargers. The manager said that it would cost £9k to replace so they are not going to bother. Apparently they are looking to get more chargers at some point. So if you are at Porsche and see a red charger. Enquire before cursing and driving off!

No where near my usual routes anyway…but I’d strategically avoid them in any event due to the ridiculous time based charges.

Ionity, Fastned and Tesla for me.

Also have a look at Gridserve if they are close by or on your route!

There’s a GS E/Forecourt kind of on one of my usual routes (small diversion) in Essex. Trouble is they were around 64p last time I pulled in and there’s no discount with Gridserve or ability to use an aggregator card like PCS or Elli.

I can get Ionity in the Porsche for 30p a unit and Fastned for a bit more.

My local Porsche Dealership (South Portugal) now charges €40 parking fee at the charger slots... lol.

Yes I know they are more expensive, way more! But they normally have a very nice facility with great coffee and a shop and lounge to relax in. Nice break but I agree not for constant use.

This whole charging fee issue is a mess. I can charge 150 kW, at a Lidl shop close by with Chargepoint for 0.25 Euro/kWh. The PCS wants 0.35 Euro per kWh Plus 0.35 Euro per minute! So more than twice the price just to have the convenience of one single charge card.

The Tesla SuC open gor all here are about 0.35 Euro/kWh if you subscribe, otherwise 0.45 Euro in non peak hours. Still very good.

Ironically Tesla rates are following the wholesale rates down, whilst the others networks appear to be ramping up. A lot. ?

So can I if I drive 35 miles down the M20 to Ionity or round to Clackett Services on the M25. Or ... 2 mins to PSL. It works out 74p per kwh (cost kwh and time based fees). That's in line with BP Shell etc superchargers. It is not extortionate relative to others. If you drive a 100k car is an extra 41p per kwh a big deal?

Dunno mate.

Here’s me fag packet maths on my other £100K BEV - Tesla Model X 100D - which has clocked up near 88,000 miles with me. So maybe it’s not worth £100k any longer. Maybe £35k if the gods are smiling ?

Anyhow if I paid an extra 41p per unit over that mileage (given it’s average lifetime consumption of around ~400 Wh/mile) then the extra over would’ve cost around £14.5k in electrons. That’s quite a bit.

As said none of the Porsche dealers are near my usual routes, so it’s a bit of a moot point, but I wouldn’t go there by design to charge anyway given its twice the cost to do so. There’s just better alternatives for me.

Yesterday I stopped off at Porsche Bournemouth where I paid £23.38 for 52.70kWh. That’s £0.44 per kWh - so not twice the cost of other DC chargers, unless I’m missing a trick?
Charging took 16 mins, so that’s an average rate of 198kW. Both chargers were free so I was in and out in less than 20 mins. I guess I could have gone in to the dealership for mooch around and a free coffee had I been inclined.
I’ve also charged at Porsche Sheffield, with a similar outcome. Exeter slightly disappointing as I only got a 125kW rate.
CF Ionity Cobham (been 5-6 times, never got more that 92kW rate and often had to queue for a charger) Leeds (queued 20 mins, 70kW rate) and Milton Keynes (130kW but had to queue for an hour) and I have to say that I’m more than happy to pay the extra 15p / kWh to charge at Porsche whenever possible!

Right now – in Ireland – I can charge at home for 44c kW/h or 33c kW/h on IONITY. Now that's more a reflection of currently high domestic electricity prices here – but it still feels nuts that 350 kW charging units are significantly cheaper than home.

Caveat: Night time home rates are 14c kW/h which is when we actually do our charging.

Agree - silly to go to a Porsche dealer with a Taycan and get charged x2 or more than at e.g. IONITY.

My local dealer guards their two 350 kW chargers like they were the entrance to the hanging gardens of Babylon. On the other hand, they always work and any charging you do there is free!
