I was thinking of this thread today........

Nipped out to the shops 10 mins away and parked up in direct sun.
Bought some bbq stuff and got in the car and it was quite hot inside and 24c outside (that's hot for Manchester ?).

I put it onto max a/c in ECO mode and it was a pleasant temperature in about a minute. No need to even take if off ECO.

The thing is, I remember last summer thinking the aircon was lame and didn't really cool or blow hard.

No idea what's changed, but something was working better today.

I have not had any problems at all with my aircon here in south of France. And we have had days with more than 35 degrees for week or so. Precooling helps and if I don’t I need to have the aircon in normal mode and switch to ECO once cooled down.
I would think you need some maintenance checks or your system
Same here.
At least last year …and i’m using eco mode more than 90% (with precooling when needed).
I have pano roof, insulated glasses.

Yep. My memory from last year was it got cool really quick! Maybe needs re-gassing or something i suppose. The main pain will be convincing them its not working right as its one of those things you inevitably can't demonstrate. We'll see!

Yes, basically taking 20 minutes or so of driving time with the aircon on maximum before the cabin is cool enough to consider turning the AC down a bit. I did find that changing the vents from 'diffused' to 'focused' did help a bit as more air coming out of the central vents.
IMO, 20 minutes is too much even if you are not using precooling.
I’d arrange visit to the shop.

Now it has finally warmed up in the UK (about 25c today), Ive noticed the car has really struggled to cool the interior. Aircon definitely isn't in eco mode. Grey car, black seats, tinted windows, pan roof.

I'm sure most of the Texan's and Californians on here would view these temperatures as quite cool, so I can only imagine they would be really yelling if the aircon is coping like mine is.

One thing I did notice is the air temperature gauge in the car is about inline with what weather apps are calling the temperature. However, we all know cars that have been sitting in the sun get quite a bit hotter than that and my other car, parked next to it, has the temperature about 10c higher.

So, would it make sense that the aircon isn't working very hard as the car thinks it's cooler than it actually is - i've no idea if the aircon would be using the same temperature sensor? Or perhaps the aircon is just crap, or maybe it needs some maintenance?

Short version:
Everyone happy with power of their aircon?
I have the same problem but I’m putting the car in the garage as there is no way it is working correctly. It’s no different in Eco or Full AC mode. The chiller is basically not working. Yet another problem I have experienced in 6 months of ownership.

Mines working a bit better than that at least. Or rather it was, as I just got in the car and it threw out the 'yellow' electrical system warning. FFS.

I had the full red version after 2 weeks. When I got it back it (after HV replacement)did it again. I put the key in a lead faraday box and it seems to stop it

Also after 20 mins the car is sucking in cooler air so I think you have the same problem

Ill give the faraday box a try with the key, though i don't have keyless entry. I had just plugged it in to the home charger a while ago and was going back in to the car as the app seemed to think it was still Wednesday and wouldn't let me put in a timer setting. Chicken/egg, no idea.

There’s another chat on this forum talking about faulty sensors on AC, I assume that’s what we have

Sorry to hear about all your troubles.
But I think this forum might not be able to help you if there really is a fault.

Have you taken the car to Porsche service so that they can have a look at it? They would surely see any issues through their PIWIS?

The fact that cars in much hotter weather than U.K. have no problems with cooling speaks a lot that you have a problem in your car? The only ones that I know that can help is Porsche.

The forum has helped me to ask them if it is a sensor fault, I’m not the only one with this problem

Do you have a temperature probe? A digital steak thermometer or an accessory to a multimeter or an infrared thermometer?

In such case you could put it in front of the vent when the aircon is running. And we could do the same by setting the temperature to the minimum. That should tell directly
Fortunately a little sleep made the yellow electrical fault error, my car just threw, go away! Phew.

It's a much warmer day today and the car dashboard has 29c as the air temperature (which is about right) and the car is in the shade so, so it doesn't feel as hot inside the car as it did a few days ago when air temp was lower. AC was set to 18.5c. As soon as i started up, it began blowing lovely icy cold air and cabin was cooled quickly.

Heston Blumenthal's steak thermometer said the air from vents at 'Low' and also at higher temperatures was coming out around 6c. Perfect.

So it does make me think the issue isn't the actual AC unit itself, but it is using ambient air temperature as its reference point for it's cooling behaviour, rather than the in cabin temperature. Maybe the cabin sensor (if there is such a thing) is playing up?

Further update on mine after a 70 mile drive today in temperatures of 31deg.

Precooled car for 10 minutes, as it had been sitting in the sun (I also have pano roof). It was a bit cooler but not cold.

The only way I could keep the car anywhere near comfortable was to hit the Max A/C button. The fan is then on max (and pretty noisy) and the temp reads LOW (one step below 16deg).

When I changed anything (reverted to eco A/C or lowered the fan speed a notch), the cabin started heating up again. The air from the outlets was cool, not cold.

Something is clearly wrong - it shouldn't struggle like this.

Going to call Silverstone on Monday.
