So, have had a TS for a couple of years now and love it. It’s now 3-years old and time to shift.. Back in March got offered a slot for a new GTS ST. Spec’d it, paid 5k deposit and it’s now sat in Emden awaiting the ship to the UK. Since then the used market is falling, prices have risen and I’m not sure I really want a brand new car:
I’d allocated myself 40k to put in with mine but given the price rises and depreciation over the past couple of months it’s likely to be considerably more than that.
So, what are my chances of cancelling and getting my deposit back? Slim to nil?
A bit stuck of what to do other than go with it and accept I’ve haemorrhaged a shit load of cash…..

Maybe as much the Turbo S depreciation as anything else.

I’ve a Taycan Turbo and looked at range for GTS ST and it chilled my interest straightaway. Perhaps I’d be in greater shock if I was looking at trade in value of my 2022 Turbo too!

It’s a volatile market with semi conductor issue resolved and consumer spending constrained y borrowing rates and general theme of frugality!

I hope you can find a way through this and/or spec is appealing for the
GTS ST and maybe the dealer will cut you some slack!

That car is pretty desirable. I think your chances are better than 50% to get the full deposit back.

Even if you had to give them a couple grand to keep the car , probably a better option. Keep what you have, most likely won’t bring you 40k+ more enjoyment - some killer vacations most likely would or put in a good index fund

Well from what I can see, in the UK new Taycans with dealers ie ones built and presumably immediately available are listing around £8-10k below their new price if built.

Good luck but I think Porsche dealers have a lot of new and used stock right now in the UK.

A friend who runs a dealership (AM not Porsche) told me some time ago that if the dealer sell the car for full price then they have are legally obliged to give you the deposit back.

My dealer told me I could have my deposit back if I changed my mind a couple of years ago.
We should all take note of the dealers that treat our community well vs poorly. In a scenario like this where the dealer is very likely going to sell that GTS ST for MSRP (or more), if they choose to hold onto the OP’s deposit, that says a lot about that dealership.

OP please be sure to share the outcome so that others can take notice and make an informed decision about who to do business with (and avoid) going forward.

Check your order form- mine (perhaps differing by dealership group from yours) had these apparently contradictory clauses about deposits:

Delivery: We will write to you notifying the Estimated Delivery Date for your Vehicle once we receive confirmation from the manufacturer of your Vehicle’s production date. You may cancel your order at any time before the Estimated Delivery Date is notified to you by giving written notice to us that you wish to cancel your order. We will refund any deposit paid if you cancel your order in these circumstances.

5. DEPOSIT ARRANGEMENTS
5.1 The deposit is set out in the New Vehicle Order Form and is payable to us no later than the Effective Date.
5.2 Subject to clause 5.3 deductions, the deposit paid is refundable to you only in those circumstances where the Agreement is terminated in reliance on the occurrence of an event or conduct for which you have no responsibility or to which you have made no contribution, that is, a "no fault" termination on your part. In all other cases the deposit is not refundable.
5.3 You will be invited by us to book and attend a Porsche Driving Experience ("PDE") at the Porsche Experience Centre in Silverstone. If after booking and/or taking the PDE you do not proceed with the purchase of the Vehicle we may, at our discretion, retain from any deposit to be refunded to you, all or some of the cost to us of your PDE attendance as taken or booked.

...but with the current uncertainty around EV values, even taking the full £5k hit might be your least costly option in the longer run.

Thank you all - constructive and useful feedback. I’ve started the discussion (emailed) and will speak to them tomorrow. There are very similar spec’d cars on approved, c.5 months old/4K mileage for £20k less than my brand new. Worst case scenario I loose some/all of my deposit but as much as this is gutting it may just be one to take on the chin. I’ll certainly name (but hopefully not shame) the dealer once the discussion has concluded… fingers crossed!!

Mine arrived in March 23, I was one week before collection, fortunately, I only put a much smaller deposit down due to the fact ( maybe that ) I am a previous CT purchaser, I had the same thoughts, far more expensive car crashing even more cash is not my idea of fun. Keeping the CT4S (20,000m ) as I personally think is a stunning car without breaking the bank. So, buying a manual 4s / Targa as a 3rd car. That should sort it until this mad EV market decides what is what.

Most dealers would be happy to refund the deposit. Both of my Taycans were cancelled orders. I agreed to them both straight away.

I have a GTS order in place, locked in April and my dealer indicated an August delivery, and then no communication at all. I decided that I'd cancel 2 weeks ago. Emailed the dealer who frantically called me back after the weekend, saying oof course I could cancel, expressing surprise I hadn't heard anything from Porsche since my car was built and sitting in Emden awaiting shipment. I was initially told that I'd have to wait for the dealer to sell the car before I'd get my deposit back, but then some haggling persuaded me to continue with the purchase, now expecting to take delivery... sometime ?
