Hi all,

Got my GTS at the weekend and im currently with Eon where im on a fixed rate of 30 per kw at all times. They do a drive tariff which is 9.5p from 11.30-7.30 ( i think ) and 33p at all other times, i only do around 150-200 miles a week so would only charge it 2 or 3 times a week. Does this sound like a good deal or should i be looking at Octopus/OVO? ive had a quick look at the prices but i just feel confused now! any advise? thanks

I'll be moving to Octopus Intelligent once my EV arrives.

Peak rate (in London) of 31.21p and then 6 hours at 7.5p is a no brainer for me.

Just getting some home battery added to my system and I'll be do relatively low milage so the off-peak prices will also help me fill the battery when the solar isn't generating much come winter!

only annoying thing is that I can't move to it until I have the car as it supposedly needs to run a test charge? with the battery and Zappi going in tomorrow, I'll have to hang on to the standard rate for a little while longer.

also if you know an existing friendly customer you can both share £100 off your bill ?

A lot will depend on your electricity usage. Jin has a battery and solar, as I do. I also have a heat pump installed so I'm 100% electricity and my EV usage is light. I'm on Octopus Flux at the moment to maximise solar export prices and I'll move to either Intelligent, Cosy or Intelligent Flux once heating the house kicks in and the solar dies down.

If all you need to do is charge an EV, have heavy car use and maybe the house is empty during the working day then the cheapest overnight rates might make the most sense for you.

I use Octopus agile and am paying on average 15p per kWh for all my power. If you have some technical skills Octopus agile can be really good. I know others on here sing the praises of Octopus Go and Octopus Intelligent.

What kind of technical skills does one need for octopus agile?

You can move to Octopus Go now and then to Intelligent when your car comes if you want a cheaper rate over night before you get your car. Only 4 hours though

I might have stayed with EON of this had come out before I moved to Octopus however the Octopus deal is cheaper/better for me. And there is no penalty during the day. Their day rate for me is their standard rate and the night time rate is the cheapest I have seen at 7.5p

Yeah, I think their day rate was 30p where Eon is 33p so that soon adds up over a month, especially in the winter! How many hours do you get at 7.5p?

6 hours at 7.5p. The rest at (I think) 29.9p

I work from home, but I’m in the office Wednesdays, and I guess my car usage is quite light, around 150-200 per week, but octopus Intelligent day rates will be the same as what I’m paying now on my normal tariff and it also has cheaper night rate.

I did speak to someone at octopus who seemed to suggest I couldn’t move to go either without the ev there to test but she didn’t sound like she knew for sure… I’ll look to do that, thanks
