this report can't sum it up better. Especially for forks in Los Angeles, CA.
And it doesn't even include the derated charging speed issue at many stations. (ie. says 350kw but only output 30kw)

The EA chargers in greater LA area really suck ass, at least from my personal experience.
However, their facilities are much nicer in the OC area, just like everything else :crying:

You guys will overcome this situation eventually, You're America, you landed on the moon for god sake! ?
I wonder if somebody can get behind all that and find out what is wrong. The video in the original post has missed the point that Tesla is happily charging all other EV’s in Europe at the stations that have opened. And not just charging. The actually. Communicate and start the charging much faster than any Ionity. Only drawback at the moment is that the Provide 400 volt ( except the V4 perhaps) . But super reliable. Fastned start up is very rapid as well.

There has to be some very basic reason like the CCS protocol, temperature range, humidity, grid performance or very bad maintenance, in order to e plain the difference.

Here in Europe we are not free of problems, but nowhere on the same level as what seems to be the case in USA?

Did US really land somebody on the moon …..????

Not that there aren't a plethora of other threads on this :) but there are aspects beyond the system design itself; an important part of the low reliability availability score (which is what really matters to motorists) is the time-to-repair, which would depend on availability of personnel (think of the distances/population density), the cost of the repairs etc. From what I read, there is no "free" charging in Europe, and unfortunately, that is a deterrent to prompt servicing in the EA network.

Yes we did and we are about to do it again. On top of that, the creator of the working EV charging network is about to take US to Mars, where he will probably install a working super charger for when his roadster finally comes down. Meanwhile back on earth, we will still be stuck with 30kw charging speeds?

Why service when you can just replace! I'm convinced EA is not motivated to service old stations because their plan was to replace them in 4 years anyways. Unfortunately the usable life of those earlier chargers was only 2 years. Worse yet, the new stations, I've found can also be consistently unreliable (Salinas, CA on multiple occasions for me). Hoping the extra gov't funds will help. I would spend them on retrofitting breakers on the outside of the chargers so users can power-cycle ourselves

I thought EVgo was better but I got caught out twice last weekend in LA using their network. Once at a new Ultium site when another user plugging in triggered a fault in my charge. Then again on one of their older chargers, with every plug capped at 50kW.

I gave up EA charging after the first year. I put up a couple dozen solar panels at my house plus Tesla powerwalls and voila. I'm now off the grid AND charge at home to my hearts delight. But what about long trips you might ask? I prefer another American invention for such occasions called an airplane.

I have never left an IONITY station without the charge I expected and needed. And I have been to over a hundred across probably ten countries.

I'm getting to the stage where if I'm researching on PlugShare about an IONITY station I'm planning on using, I'm starting to think: "why am I doing this?"

I think long queues – especially at UK IONITY stations are starting to be a concern – but that is being addressed somewhat by the current expansion.

America is very good at one-offs and demos. Perhaps there will even be a Tesla on the moon someday, but not every Tesla will have the capability to get there. We do have a Tesla orbiting the solar system, but also only one so far.

PS> I did own a Mars version of Tesla Model S though - it had a Mars map mode, and when the infotainment screen started turning yellow, Tesla told me it's not covered under warranty since it is my own fault for exposing the screen to Earth's atmosphere (their exact words were "sunlight and oxygen"). I surmised this was the model intended for night driving on Mars, while wearing a space suit.

Hmm... one thing to learn from this video. If you cannot access the fuse panel of your DC charger, perhaps attempting to hack and crash the local power grid will reset and fix the DC charger. I wonder if I could sell an app for that - "crash your local grid to reset your EV DCFC equipment - use only if you really need a charge as it will cause blackouts of entire neighborhoods". ?

Agree, I have only once left a 18 charger Ionity site without being able to charge. But that was due to a massive Thunderstorm knocking out loads of charging networks, Ionity, Allego , Total etc. In a large region in south of France.

But queues and restarts of the chargers and reduced power, has happened a number of times for me. Even when reduced it still gave some 70-75 kW. Too slow when you have a long day trip ahead of you though. But we are fortunate to have so many alternatives within 20-30 km max. on the routes we travel.

I can understand that for longer trips, if you do not have stops to visit family and friends. But for a 500 km trip to waste 1.5 to 2 hours at an airport out of town and then land somewhere with a long taxi ride, does not appeal to me at least.

Fast trains like the TGV in France is sometimes the best alternative for us.
