It appears that on the 2nd October, IONITY made an application to install even more units at the Hilton Leicester location that is currently under construction. The latest application appears to show an additional 12 units (including Alpitronics) on top of the 12 being installed. That would be a whopping 24 units once completed.

Cheers. I captured the first three in the OP on Monday but the last two are news!

They’re not on the IONITY Tracker yet, so good spot.

Incidentally where is the expected opening info coming from?

The official IONITY account on Facebook. I despise Facebook, but unfortunately they seem to be much more active on there with news updates than Twitter.

Ah that's interesting. This must then be complementary to their Village Hotels announcement.

Playing the field....

Yes, although bit of a difference between the two groups. Valary has 3 hotels compared to the 33 of Village.

I'd love Ionity to add more bays in to J17 of the M4. 2 out of the 6 are currently US. I got in to the last free bay of the other 4 and all the other cars were sipping their last few KW at 95%+ SOC (a Merc EQ, Audi Q4, Polestar). I added 45KW in 10 minutes and the Merc added had taken 45 minutes to add the same. Grrrrrrr.

Slight thread hijack I know, but aside from educating new EV drivers, I reckon adding on a per minute charge after something like 20-30 minutes of charging would be no bad thing. It would help cycle through charging and might even mean that we would need fewer charge points overall.

Follow the Tesla model (they do some things right like high power charging!!) - and when the site is busy, by default set the cars to a max of 80% unless the driver over-rides it. Only works when you control both side of the dice though.

Otherwise yeah it’s a gradual “education” campaign to discourage folks trying to ‘brim it’ when DC fast charging. Helps when there’s more hubs about too…

It wouldn't take much for either a vehicle app or charge provider app to send message to a user's phone when an 80% SOC is reached, or rate of charge has dropped off significantly to let them know their journey will be quicker if they stop charging now and get another sip later on, and they would be doing everyone else a favour as well. at the same time. Little nudges like this would go a long way I reckon.

Slightly off topic but a dealer told me last week (I was charging the Tesla) that they have been told to provide 24x7 access to chargers at their facilities and hence this particlualr dealer would be moving their chargers to spare land outside the dealership perimeter.

Quite why they thought it was a bright idea to restrict charging to office hours only I don't know, but at least they (Porsche) have recognised their error and are taking steps to rectify it.

Is it likely this will open March 2024…….. it’s gonna be a busy one I’m guessing but really needed. Any further updates on completion dates ?
