Attached is file of translated article originally linked here by @perski.

Porsche will replace a central part of the heater in all Taycan models. More than 2,000 Norwegian customers
have already switched. Now, Porsche is using AI in pursuit of the rest.

Porsche has been working on the issue for over two years, after they first became aware of the flaw. But
it is quite recently that they have found a replacement that they are confident in.
"I have had the problem myself in my own car and I understand that it has created a hopeless situation
for our customers. We have spent time understanding what actually happens with this error,
because it occurs somewhat unpredictably. But all the parts that we are now putting into the Taycan
models we bring in for service are of a version we are completely confident will work properly," says Kevin
Giek, Product Manager for the Taycan at the Porshce Group, in a teams conversation.

"Now we have enough parts, but not to change all the cars at the same time. We prioritise those
markets that have a cold winter – such as Norway. And an important part of the job is to identify the
cars that are most likely to have this problem first," says Stefan Lutz, Quality Director at Porsche AG.

My supposition on what they are doing is trying to predict which Webasto heater unit control boards are likely to have bad solder joints from manufacturing that are going to break/open due to thermal cycling and some amount of road vibration, where weights are assigned to the magnitude and frequency of thermal cycling and the other variables like miles driven.

Is that what the root cause of the problem actually is, as confirmed by Porsche, or is it an (educated) guess?

…asking as the linked article was pretty non-commital. They didn’t want to even name the supplier. Every man and his dog knows full well it’s Webasto ?

Hilarious, this is Porsche marketing at its best. This is not AI. These are a couple of if-statements to predict if you heater will break soon.

Thanks folks. Hadn't seen that before.

There's still no official proactive campaign or recall to replace these Webasto heaters here in the UK - I guess its deemed by our German compadres that it's neither cold enough in Blighty or we're important enough.

That is a bit funny alright since it is considered a safety hazard by Porsche in France. They recommended that I call Porsche Assistant when my heater failed at Ester 2021.
Same in UK. The dealership told me to call PA when mine went!

I imagine it's not considered a 'safety hazard' along the lines of the car will burst into flames w/o warning, rather than your windscreen may mist up. But the latter is arguably a little dangerous and crosses the threshold to jump the queue at the garage via the PA route.

I think to be fair, Porsche probably didn’t ever say “AI”, but that was the reporter juicing up the article headline.

I think it’s legacy in the U.K. from all the old British cars with Lucas electrics and no defrost fan. Grab the towel in one hand and keep the drivers window open. Defrost problem solved.
