So this was unexpected, but after waiting over 13 months, I got *that call* yesterday, that the 40mm Rhodium dial YM1 I asked about ages ago, arrived for me.

Currently the only modern Rolex model I have any real interest in and it suits my low key tastes pretty perfectly ??

Wow, a mechanical delight but far too big for my taste.
I have hated the fashion for larger and larger wristwatches and am relieved it is moving a bit back to normal size.
I got an Omega Speedmaster Professional for my 21st birthday in 1971 and it was disappointingly larger than most other watches then but looks small now compared to those in fashion over the last 10 to 20 years..

These are 3 of my Speedmasters, in order of age and shows the size fashion development. Much though I like the meteorite dial on the latest one it is too big to enjoy wearing, IMO.

It turns out there are only around a dozen of the “racing” version of the speedy this old so it is so valuable I rerely wear it now. The nicest to wear is actually the old triple date which is by far the least valuable.

Yes I used the original that I got in 1971 extensively as a spectating fan and also doing corner times out on the circuit once I had started working in it.
Only accurate to 1/5 sec but it is a button press as well and fine for what i used it for.
Back then the official times were done by people with stopwatches too and often the driver’s wife would be the team timekeeper with 3 watches on a board linked so one button press started one watch stopped the next and zeroed the next so one always had a static reading of the last lap.

I own multiple Grand Seikos (spring drives and mechanical) but never their 9F HAQ models. I wanted to add a high end quartz to my collection but decided to do something different and instead went with one of the 40mm The Citizen Chronomasters ??

Here seen side by side my SBGA413 Shunbun ? with spring drive movement.

Both titanium
Both 40mm
Both 100M WR
Both quartz regulated
Both Zaratsu polishing

But while the GS has some enjoyable mechanical component with a display case back, the Citizen has some built in lume, a full perpetual calendar, and solar powered Eco Drive which will never require batteries ??

Probably the ultimate 'throw it on, GADA watch'
