As may other, my onboard charger went. I've been researching the issue, saw this video which seems to point out the issue and how it can negatively impact the battery overtime. Anyone know if this is true and/or if the Porsche charger replacements are fixed?

It seems weird that this issue doesn't seem to plague the Audi E-Tron GT and that they just would upgrade to same changer.

I just upgraded my car to the 22KW onboard charger. I hope it is an improvement for this purported issue. I now have Plug and Charge which is why I did the upgrade.

Interesting! Did you have a Porsche dealer do it? I've inquired about this exactly, but they told me it wasn't possible.

Or was it a DIY job?

Thanks,

It is only available in the US apparently. The kit with the 22KW charger and new charging ports/heavier wiring was about $2K. The installation labor was supposed to be 12 hours of labor. It is not DIY since the car has to be programmed to accept the new charger. My dealer never did this update before and charged me $5000! The front doors have to come off to access the charging ports which get replaced. To make matters worse they did not properly seat a connector on the charger. It gave me an error message. To find this problem took another week and a half. I did this update to give my 2020 4S Plug and Charge capability. We had to use a sketchy App that was crap.

I got the 22kW charger from the factory. Mine failed at ~11,000 miles / 2 years, leaving me stranded.

Thank you very much for all that information.

I had my 11kW OBC replaced under warranty last year. I did ask them to put in a 22kW right away, but no...

I too am interested in plug & charge. But probably not $5000 level interested.

I'll carefully ask my dealer again anyway.

I know plug and charge is very handy to have, but we have the Porsche Charging card and the app. And now you also could get that Porsche Charging key crest for a fraction of the price. I would spend my money on a week at a luxury hotel with fine meals instead. It is a lot of money for very marginal benefit in my books.

I am exploring whether I can get a federal 30% tax credit on the price of the 22KW upgrade. Stay tuned.
