Red Circle of Death - has anyone had this and then been diagnosed by Porsche as a 12v battery issue?

OK - so I had my second Red Circle of death incident last night- car was towed this morning - on both occasions my car was sitting in my garage for a few days (unlocked most of that time at least). My car key is stored 40-50ft away (not in a faraday box).

My first time with this red circle failure is posted here ... but for the TL;DR see the result for me on post 36 .........you will see they could not find any problem but while they had the car the 12v battery had died.

Today my service advisor said the tech thinks it may be a problem with the 12v battery so that is where they are focusing.....

I have scanned the posts on here and the consensus seemed to be that the 12v battery issues resulted in the amber warning ... but I do not see anyone that experienced the red circle from the 12v battery ... anyone share their experiences with this?

Lead Taycan tech at my dealer told me that the red electrical warning light is not very specific - that it can be caused by many things - and that it does not necessarily point to HV battery problem.

It Will be Interesting to hear when they finally diagnose your problem! From my experiences, your 12 volt battery is still powering your car as the PCM is still alive. Sounds more like the traction battery fault in my opinion.

I have had both faults, the 12 volt battery dying and also the the main battery being faulty.

When my 12 volt battery failed, there was nothing active on the displays. Everything in the car was turned off. The towing company brought the 12 volt back with a booster and then had a high power charger to help it get some charge.

When the main battery failed I had a similar display to yours, but the car would not move at all. The 12 volt battery then ran out of power and the car was completely bricked. That time the towing company boosted the 12 volt and could engage neutral to push the car a bit.

I think they would like to find that it is the 12v and that is influencing bias right now ... maybe .... we will see....

Interestingly the dealership service manager tells me after selling hundreds of Taycan's they have seen only one HV battery replacement - that surprises me given the Socal and Coachella Valley temperatures .....

Maybe all the other have been battery repairs. Both my dealer here in France has seen several of them and they did the repairs in the beginning. But Porsche then decided to do all repairs at only two or three facilities in France. Same thing in Sweden where my car was repaired.

will be interesting to hear more about this.

I had the red circle of death for the first time today. Drove to the gym ok then an hour later “electrical system fault park your car safely” PCM still working but car wouldn’t go into forward or reverse. Rang Porsche who dispatched the AA for two hours later so I went and found a coffee and 30 minutes later no fault? I’d locked and unlocked the car a couple of times already for a reboot but no joy… car still ok at the moment ? Maybe I should finally get the heater recall done that Porsche invited me to last week.

To update you all on this …(I also need to post this news as an update to another thread elsewhere ….. but in the context of this post) …… I had run car scanner before this last red circle but before I could complete the BMS recalibration suggested here in this thread ……..

I heard last night that “they will be replacing three HV cells” and have ordered the modules from Germany …. I have not spoken directly to the service manager yet just to the receptionist so hopefully I will have more details soon……..

Cell #6 dead. Whole New battery ordered. Let’s hope they figure this out. I’ve not heard Tesla having this problem. Anyone?

They replaced the battery in my Model S at 18k miles and I wish they did it again. Porsche is clearly going through teething issues with their first BEV, but I prefer them being proactive here.

There's some bad cells in it definitely. Range has reduced significantly, but in a 2015 there's no range guarantee other than "completely failed pack", and that almost never happens because they just stop using bad cells. Newer models have a range guarantee.
