so far I see nothing that would prevent you from:
  • bringing your own adapter
  • lying about what kind of car you have
  • starting a charging session with the Tesla app
when I get my adapter from Lectron I'll test…
I have now taken the first two steps.
Third step to follow once my adapter arrives. (Unless reports come in that this doesn’t work.) I ordered both Lectron and A2Z since we have two EVs. We will see which arrives first!

actually charging your vehicle may be as simple as: adapter + activate via Tesla app…with "better integration" being the stuff that's on the road map for future support…

I'm willing to bet I can charge my 2020 Taycan at my local V3/V4 superchargers once I get my adapter from Lectron…

I'll report status once I have something to share.
Kyle in video says the Ford EV got an OTA update prior to NACS charging. Not clear whether it was just a notification or required.

Why would e-Transit then not work this way? Ford is saying e-Transit not eligible for Supercharging until the dealers perform some update on the vehicle.
Are you sure about that? The update by the dealership for the e-Transit seems necessary only for plug and charge.

No eTransit in Tesla app to choose, only F150 and Mach-e
I had been wondering about the omission.
So this is Nth hand, but social media has reports that neither the Ford nor aftermarket adapters work with EV models other than Ford, generating an unauthorized error message.

so Tesla is "filtering" based on some data in the CCS1 protocol handshakes - interesting…we'll have to see how this evolves…

Yea, that is what I was suspecting. Elon is not like other companies. He loves control, and his people don't need years to roll out a new software update. Notice that even the Tesla AC charging protocol contains the car VIN, which is how you can lock down your Tesla EVSE's to charge only Tesla vehicles (maybe even specific VIN's, I know the Gen1 and 2's had a way to query the VIN via the serial port).

I am not at all surprised. Until Elon allows Porsche access, we're likely stuck without it. My worry is that Porsche will just skip the pre-refresh Taycan access due to the need to replace the whole charger in order to upgrade the firmware. This could be why Porsche is not even included in the future cars list in the app.

but it already works with MagicDock - current models may never get plug & charge - but I would expect (given that it already works) that existing CCS1 Taycan's will function with "app based" activation+adapter but never get plug&charge support.

I would be unsurprised with VW/Audi/Porsche that no plug&charge/supercharger support is provided until the vehicle is also native "NACS" physical port - MY'2026 or later?

until then - once Tesla "authorizes" it (2025 according to Porsche's press release) VW/Audi/Porsche will function with app+adapter level access for North American Supercharging…

It is not a technical limitation, it's a business decision by Tesla. From a technical point of view magic dock proved that Tesla could have just enabled access to all via a portable magic dock (a $230 adapter), but they did not and are not.

This is just me speculating here, but I suspect Elon is both on a power trip and on hunt for data. Perhaps the update requires some Tesla specific CCS protocol extension to give Tesla battery health data per model for example. He might have gotten this one by the desperate automakers as "necessary data for safety of charging". One of Tesla's valuable assets and competitive advantages is all the battery telemetry they've collected on Teslas so far.
