Many members of this forum were waiting for their vehicles to be delivered when Felicity Ace burned and sank.

A new lawsuit from Mitsui OSK Lines Ltd., the ship’s operator, and Allianz SE, one of the insurers of the vessel, claims a Porsche EV (a Taycan) was the source of the fire.

The plaintiffs claim that the fire originated from the lithium-ion battery of a Porsche model and allege VW failed to inform them of the danger and necessary precautions needed to transport such vehicles, according to the Stuttgart court. Although the case was filed a year ago, the judges haven’t yet looked into the merits of the suit as the parties have been quarreling about the amount of collateral that must be posted before it can proceed.

Given the numbers involved this is no small matter should a court decide to find VW/Porsche culpable!! Will take a LONG time no doubt to resolve.

Does the article specify Taycan? Could the alleged culprit not be a Hybrid Cayenne or Panamera?
Indeed doesn’t specify a Taycan - possible the inspectors determined the location of where the fire started and maybe there were specific model cars in those bays on the manifest?

2nd suit actually names LG, not Porsche but the argument to say the carrier was not aware that electric car batteries could be a fire hazard is pretty weak to say the least (and as though these were the first ever transported!) imo!

I dont even think we know what, if any evidence has been presented that an EV caused it:

"The plaintiffs claim that the fire originated from the lithium-ion battery of a Porsche model and allege VW failed to inform them of the danger and necessary precautions needed to transport such vehicles, according to the Stuttgart court."

Filling lawsuits in Germany against the crown jewel of german automotive industry is a choice, indeed. Not a smart one.

The german goverment has historically done everything possible to keep the german automotive industry outside of any troubles.

Their argument was also weak: "we didn't know that EV fires can be so dangerous, you should have told us"
