It’s possible to get some awd taycan 2020 for the same price as rwd Taycan 2021

What is the reason?
2020 was the launch year and some features were missing - from memory wireless phone connectivity for one. This may not be of material interest but hardware wise enhancements came from 2021 onwards.

The Maln feature that 2020 cars can not have is plug and charge. It requires an upgrade that is very expensive to a 22 kw charger. Apart from that I do not think I am missing out on much. But I agree, 2020 was the launch year and has a lot of issues. They launched the car far too early

Respectfully disagree. The 2021 and newer cars seem to have more heater failures. Was it 2022 or 2023 that has the battery recall bc of risk of fire. Either way wasn’t the 2020.

As someone noted above the plug and charge is the major difference. 40k miles on a 2020 without any major issues this far. Buddy has 70k on his without any issues other than a broken air vent.

Personally I think this “avoid 2020” nonsense comes from early owners whose dealers didn’t know how to service the cars. 2020s are great deals because of the stupidity professed here and elsewhere.

Cheers,

Personally, with what I’ve been reading about heater issues, 12v battery failures, pan roof cracks, red ring of death and the sheer amount of time some cars are spending in the dealership, I’m considering holding onto my 2014 (free supercharging) model S, until I see some feed back about the Gen2 cars. Battery degradation on the Taycan is also a concern with over 10% loss seen across 30k miles +/-

I accept the vast majority is warranty work but it sound like people have experienced a lot of aggravation and delays.

Seems like most forgive the car, due to the driving experience, but I really need reliability and I commute.

Yes but a lot of us just don’t have any problems at all so don’t really have a reason to post - possibly need to take that into consideration.

There are always issues with new models. The S had issues with drivetrain, door handles, main screen delaminating but the S rarely bricks or needs low loading. Battery resilience on the early batteries (85kw) is also really good.

I commute and I often have the family in the S, so I really don’t need a failure that stops the car.

Tbh, it seems the Taycan suffers that more than the S from my limited research, and when things do go wrong you seem to be without your car for much longer.

I’m not knocking the Taycan. I don’t doubt I’ll have one but I rolled the early adopter dice once & although I’m not quite in on the ground floor this time, the reports of failures & depreciation are a concern. I also foresee an absolute cliff edge in value with these go out of warranty.

Ok for the multi millionaires, but no so palatable for others.

I would go with any year. Just make sure it is cpo’d. all early 2020 problems have been sorted a long time ago. Battery and high voltage charger failures are occurring in every model so no risk aversion here. Just find the one with a warranty and all the options you want. Plug and charge is the only difference from 2021 onwards and don’t think it’s worth it.

I agree with the last comment. 2020 cars are reliable. Also depending on where u charge plug and charge doesn’t work on my 2023 GTS so even that is not worth it.

As the owner of a 2020 with almost 30k miles on it so far, I'm completely happy with having that model year. The only two issues we had were the heater failures, and the mis-alignment of the spoiler cover in freezing weather.

If you're not familiar, dissimilar composites would expand/contract at different rates inside the spoiler in the cold and cause the edges of the spoiler to stand proud from the bodywork slightly. Dealer fixed it in one same day visit after ordering the replacement parts from Germany.

I've never missed plug and charge, as we only use DC fast charging on road trips, and the extra 30 seconds to fire off a charging session using my phone or the charger interface wasn't intolerable.

My early 2020 January launch 4S has been trouble-free for almost 30,000 miles, driven year round and lives outside. My only problem was of my own making.....I punctured a radiator driving behind a gravel truck. I don't miss plug and charge although it would be nice to have...I charge almost entirely at home. With rear wheel steering, big battery, sport plus, and Burmester, I will keep this vehicle (with continuing Porsche insurance) until the end of the decade...fingers crossed.

Spoiler issue prevailed on MY21 cars too (my 4S had it) - never got it fixed and was only a seasonal glitch - disappointing for sure but hey ho. Heater failed too on the same day I picked up my MY23 GTS last May. To add insult to injury my GTS was delayed on hand-over due to a partially faulty heater!
