Scared the CRAP out of me

Haven't had any scary situations in 2+ years of ownership, just the occasional unexpected loss of PCM functions. That never impacted the driving experience, so I never complained.

But today I was in a left turn lane that had a curbed entry (tiny curbs to guide the car into the lane), I went into that area and must have been inching close the make the turn when the car's collision alert function slammed the brakes hard and scared the sh*t out of me. I think it detected a car coming from the other direction.

Technology! What we need next are AI brakes.

I had that issue with some shrubs in median near left turn lane, we were lucky no one in the car needed clean pants… the car decided it was time to manage things. And it made that known.

my Subaru has something similar and it has saved my rear bumper more than once so can’t complain much..

To be honest, I have also got the collision alert several times in roundabouts in the last month. It never ghost braked on me though, and I hope to God it doesn't, because people in Switzerland drive right up your ass so a crash is impossible to avoid if you brake too hard.

Not sure what causes it. Might it be related to out of date maps?

The lane centering function goes whonker's when you're merging.

The car couldn't figure out what was what and the steering wheel started to shake.

Good thing it's one with a press of a button.

Maybe it knows you’ve been steering and it’s just being passive aggressive.

I realize that this comment makes me officially old, but the notion that a car is able to take an action which is independent of the driver is still unsettling to me.

As you may know, you can turn of the lane keep assist.
Also, you can tell it your plans by using the turn signal.
I am not sure about canceling other features that control braking

I believe there is collision detection and I believe that can be turned off. Lane keep assist can be turned off, there's another feature with collision detection to help you balance in the lane and during turns that separate and that can be turned off as well. Those are extra safety features if I remember correctly.

I have lane keep assist turned off, its just the damn warning that gets on my nerves. Still warns me even if I am dead center in the middle of the road.

I feel much the same regarding lane keep assist, however, It does keep me awake on long drives.

For clarification, I don't use lane keep feature when I'm on surface streets, only highway. And I may or may not have had the turn signal on. Still, the car decided it was smarter than me. And while it may be, I didn't need it to give me whiplash in that moment.

My lane keep software turns off below about 25 mph.
Also, it appears to turn off when it sees more than two traffic lines.
