I have lost faith in this dealer period! I'm going to get my car back and weigh up other options with other dealers (Columbus OH is the closest to me I think).
This guy on Yelp apparently got better service at Porsche of the Village in Cincinnati.

IMO the biggest benefit of a glass fibre shield would potentially be a bit lighter for the same level of protection on more protection at the same weight but it depends on the specifics.
Building on what you said, the impact and puncture resistance is primarily a function of the thickness so switching to a glass fiber reinforcement at the same weight but 35% thicker will net significant improvement. The modest increase in strength of GF over AL, accounting for resin content and fiber orientation, would further the benefit. Curious if Porsche's material selection was weight driven or they they also identified a deficiency in the protection panel of the J1.1.

Thanks @Maelstrom for keeping us updated on your saga.

Asked for a breakdown of the parts required for the $6.5k estimate (again) and this is what he sent - now granted, it doesnt total $6.5k but the interesting one is the repair kit for the battery housing

All of those prices are high, IMO. $922 for a panel that can be found for half that, or 20% if willing to go Audi on the part!

Insane.

FWIW I've made a habit of buying my parts online at Suncoast and just paying the stealership for the labor. Granted I usually do this for things like brake pads/rotors, not all the minutia for a reassembly...

Google each part number.

Here's a pic of that repair kit:

While you wait for responses from people who actually know things about cars, here is some totally uninformed speculation.

Based on the photos of eBay listings for that part number and discussions about the APB2 recall, I'm thinking that is essentially two cans of specialized polyurethane sealant.

The point about the repair kit is that surely means they are taking that bottom tray off and should be able to see any damage to the coolant lines...right?? (or am I missing something)
My guess is that the protection plate is not just bolted on, but also has some adhesives and sealants we didn't know about. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Titanium does not shield the battery itself. Aluminum does.

@Vercingetorix - The pic in the article you posted says that 3 parts shield the battery, one of which is a titanium plate.
The rest of the article seems to be behind the NYT paywall. Does that elaborate on the purpose of parts 2 and 3?

Based on years of reading forum posts, and my direct experience over 8 years, two Porsches and a Taycan with 150 total repair days, I would rate Porsche of the Village in Cincinnati as one of the best dealerships in the country.

@Maelstrom - It seems the parties involved have eventually agreed a mutually acceptable repair price, but the root cause of unfit manufacturing design has been dodged and because of this, insurance will become more costly or harder to obtain? And other Taycan drivers could repeat your experience?
As with the 2014 TesLa Model S example, yours seems appropriate for the NTHSA?:

If true that the design has changed for MY2025, that could be construed as evidence that the previous design wasn’t fit for purpose.

The internet is killing profits for sleazy dealers. In the past they would just tell people something needed to be done and most people had no clue whether it was real. When I was young, the I remember some saying that the best way to save a lot of money was to find an honest dentist and an honest car mechanic.

When the dealer changed out my charging cable on the recall a couple of days ago they also put my Taycan up on the lift and sent a video stating no dents on the battery tray. Sigh of relief.
