Has anyone got the new updated 4S yet? If you had the original version, honestly speaking…is it the improvement that the auto journalists say? What are the highlights? is there anything that you feel they could have done better or you felt they moved backwards on?

Search the forum as there are some comparisons.

Most significant change / enhancement is obviously additional range from the larger battery, faster charging times, and an increase in power.

Jury is out on the external cosmetic changes.

Overall a positive change but perhaps not one to make you immediately upgrade.

Exactly, there are marked improvements in areas which haven't been a limitation for me and I don't prefer the new styling so for me, pointless but for anybody range limited a marked improvement.

To put my previous post into context....

Porsche Taycan New version 4S. Is is really that much improved? 4s j1

Porsche Taycan New version 4S. Is is really that much improved? 4s j2

Clearly im comparing used for used but these two have 3 months age in them and the older one is advertised with 3,000 miles less.

Yes you'd likely get discount on both and yes residual would no doubt be a little higher on the J1.2. But not 30k.... Nowhere near.

[EDIT: The residual is £39k after 42months for both!!!!!]

IMHO, don't shoot me. You'd be nuts to but a J1.2 when the deals are so good on the J1's

So yes.... if I want to drive over 280miles without topping up I'll take the jet and still be in pocket.

I thought the new 4S had a driveable (honest) range of circa 340 ish ?

Don't shoot me, but I'm one of the very few that prefer the styling on the newer version.

The thing I'm most hopeful of, is the improvement of the CPU. My 2020 has had little funny turns and clitches from the day I picked it up, today. TBF I've never experienced a worse car CPU than I have had with my 4S (thank god it drives beautifully)

The J1.2 has additional improvements over what is mentioned here:
1. Air Suspension comes standard, which in turn is also an updated version of the Air Suspension from the J1.
2. Heatpump is now standard and also improved.
3. The software is improved, many issues fixed (from what i heard) and unlocks more capabilities for Apple Carplay.
4. Charging is improved a lot with a much wider temperature envelope for optimal charging and faster speeds
5. Option to get Active Ride on 4(S) and above
6. Push-to-pass on 4S and above
7. I have heard improved back-up camera? But not sure
8. Overal improved efficiency and range
9. Intelligent Range Manager is standard

Just to name a few. It’s a very substantial facelift if you dig in and find all the details.

Will be back in fla on Monday and will drive my new 25 4s for the first time. Had a 2020 4s so will give a detailed comparison.
Was tinted and had ceramic coating installed at my shop so it’s ready for my arrival !

With a summary this good, if I were an LLM I would be worried you were going to take my job ?

The range has increased about 30-35% compared to the previous model. About half from larger battery and half from increased efficiency. What actual range you get depends on a number of different factors from equipment to driving style.

I’m not sure whether they have upgraded the hardware or just optimised the software, but the PCM is noticeably quicker than before. I would still not call it good, but at least it’s better.

Overall, the amount of improvements greatly depends on how you spec the car. There are a number of inherent improvements in the standard package, but much is also tied to optional equipment. If you don’t spec Active ride, then you obviously don’t get the improvements from it.

Overall, the software is better, it has higher performance and increased comfort. I would however say that the greatest tangible improvements relate to e-mobility; the electric vehicle stuff, where essentially everything has improved substantially:

  • Higher peak charge rate.
  • Higher average charge rate and flatter charge curve.
  • Much quicker charging initialisation and ramp up.
  • Supports 400V charging as standard.
  • Much larger battery temperature range for fast charging.
  • Apparently, significant faster charging in cold climates.
  • Quicker cooling/heating of battery.
  • Better temperature management for increased efficiency in hot/cold climates.
  • More efficient overall, which means more range per minute when charging.
  • Increased regen from 290 kW to 400 kW.
  • Increased usable battery size from 83.7 kWh to 97 kWh.
  • Slightly lower weight.
  • Improved charging software interface.
  • Electric charge port cover standard.

From what I can gather in the previous posts and links, the main changes for 2025 are battery capacity and charging, and styling. I'm wondering if anyone has had the opportunity to test a PDCC car vs Active Ride? I would agree that either is a 'must have', but not sure if Active Ride suspension represents any improvement over PDCC in terms that the driver can actually feel.

These options aren’t mutually exclusive. Chances are most variants will have air suspension as standard (and PASM) with PDCC as an extra (can’t have PDCC without air from memory). Besides, MY25 cars have a new option PAR (Porsche Active Ride) which replaces PDCC (has been dropped for the Taycan) which is an entirely different beast (apples / pears comparison).

I’m not a fan of the new styling which appears to be change for change sake. As for comments about bigger battery it’s a less than 10% bigger battery from my current 93kwh and I’m getting 270 on my 4SCT . Wonder what the real world extra range is! 25 miles which is no big deal.

Seems like you’re comparing gross battery with net battery. The old Taycan only has 83.7 kWh usable battery vs 97 kWh in the new one (105 kWh gross). About 15.9% increase in usable battery.

Like I said in my earlier comment, the total range increase is about 30-35% compared to an equivalent J1. Winter efficiency is supposed also have been improved, but naturally no one has been able to test that yet, so we’ll see how it performs.
