Hello friends, I'm looking to upgrade the mirrors of my Taycan GTS to CF ones.

This is what I have now (except for the color being white):
Porsche Taycan Upgrade to carbon fiber mirrors 1

This is what I want:
Porsche Taycan Upgrade to carbon fiber mirrors 2

I guess I have 2 options:
1/ Find a local shop who's able to do great work on carbon fiber vinyl wrapping. Any PNW friends know who can do this?
2/ Paint the lower section to black, purchase a carbon fiber mirror housing, and replace the original one. For this option, will only the Porsche dealer do it? And if that's the case, I'll have to purchase the OEM housing (toooooo expensive)?

I appreciate any pointers if anyone has done this before.

I posted an update to that thread. Morale of the story - if you buy those sub $700 carbon fiber mirror caps off eBay, you sometimes get what you pay for. hit or miss. Most folks I've talked to have been misses or a half-hit and accept the miss.

What a timing! I ended up purchasing this https://autotecknic.com/products/autotecknic-replacement-dry-carbon-mirror-covers-porsche-9j1-taycan It'll be delivered today. I'll share how it goes after I finish all the installation and painting of the lower housing!

I think those are better quality. Closer to OEM. I think I should have just bought those originally..now that I think about it..the ones I got were more like 500.

update - those were the ones I got the second time. they were willing to give me another pair but I didn't want to wait another month. let me know how it goes. when you line them up, tell me if you see a gap underneath.

Mine were wrapped before I purchased the car. I think probably at the same time as it was PPFd. I can’t tell the difference. Seems like an effective approach.

Is this plug and play or do we need PIWIS to reset some sensors?

I asked a few local shops and no one wanted to do the wrapping because of the special curve on the mirror housing.

Ah I see. I'll definitely watch out on that.

Btw, did you paint the lower part of the housing to black, or did you keep it ice grey?

I was going to have the lower done too, but ended up keep it ice gray. The transition looks good to me.

when I get a chance to pull the car out of the garage, I'll take a snap.

Sounds good. I remember seeing you saying it didn't turn out to be as good as you had expected. Honestly I wonder whether it's because the lower side is not black. I can't imagine I would really like the two-tone style on the mirror. And that's probably why for the original configuration you automatically get high gloss black lower housing when you choose the CF mirror option. There's no way to opt out.

I have the OEM CF side mirrors, while the sport design side skirt inserts wrapped in CF. The average eye probably won't notice the difference. It's your car, and you WILL notice the difference. As others have said, you get what you pay for. I should've just got the CF inserts from the beginning. I have almost 40k miles and the OEM CF mirrors still look pristine (with PPF), while the wrapped CF is starting to show some age.

Wrapped.
Maybe the reluctance was to do a full wrap. These aren’t. Much cheaper than replacing.
CF look isn’t my thing but for me this does the same job as PPF so I kept it.
‘Scuse the dust.

I wouldn't bother if I were you, the weight saving will be minimal.
