Excerpts below from two articles.

August 14, 2023 — A Porsche Taycan class action lawsuit alleges customers in California have not received what they paid for regarding 2020-2021 Porsche Taycans, including base, 4S, Turbo, and Turbo S models.

The class action alleges Porsche advertised the 2020-2021 Taycans as equipped with several functions that are allegedly defective.

State-of-the-art cockpit display
Integrated Apple CarPlay and an infotainment system with Apple Music built in
Air conditioning and heating
A mobile phone app that controls charging the car, displays the status of charging, and controls the air conditioning
Wireless mobile phone charging
In addition, the class action alleges the Taycan has a "Smart Lift system that is geolocation based so the car will remember locations where lifting the car for greater clearance is desired and automatically lifts the car when at those locations."

The lessee who sued contends Porsche knew none of these features functioned properly. However, Porsche allegedly forced customers to pay for vehicles with several features that didn't work.

The class action lawsuit was filed by California plaintiff William M. Turner who leased a 2021 Porsche Taycan 4S.

Porsche allegedly falsely advertised the 2020-2021 Taycan vehicles by making consumers believe multiple features functioned normally.

August 11, 2024:
Motion to Dismiss the Porsche Taycan Class Action Lawsuit
Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald dismissed the majority of the claims against Porsche, but did allow claims over the Song-Beverly Act and California Unfair Competition Law to proceed.

The judge found most of the alleged problems do not affect the safety of the vehicles, but the judge did agree with the plaintiff about safety issues associated with the heating systems.

Porsche now must respond to the remaining Song-Beverly Act and California Unfair Competition Law claims.

The Porsche Taycan class action lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court for the Central District of California: William M. Turner v. Porsche Cars North America, Inc.

What a waste of court time. But then the US (and especially CA) willingness to launch lawsuits is baffling to those of us in any other country :)

Things not functioning properly. They don't clarify what properly means...
Things function; they are shitty, but they function. That's the best porsche can do in terms of software... they probably expected tesla software.

Right now only tesla and rivian offer good software in western cars, but that is no reason to sue and expect to win ?

BMW is also superior at software.

  • I agree with the dismissal of some/all of the claims - 100% - this is simply stupid money grab by some lawyers who know they can shake down major corporations
  • it's too easy for people to sue for things are are not lawsuit worthy
  • this is a warning shot across the bow of Porsche in that they really really need to get as serious about being excellent with the digital aspects of their vehicles as they are with the mechanical aspects.
  • Porsche's efforts in digital can use some serious improvement and this sort of "customer feedback" is evidence that it's unacceptable to be "barely good enough" in a premium product category no matter how good your brakes are or how supple your steering feel is…

you didn't receive your $0.27 check? while the lawyers who negotiated the multi-million $$$ settlement now evade taxes in various tropical locations having garnered 75% of the $350,000,000 settlement?

I'd enquire about the check - you might missing out on big money up to and including $0.57 payouts with a "free" data monitoring service that send you daily eMail trying to "upgrade" you to their very affordable $59/month data monitoring and colonoscopy service.

I have the highest esteem for the legal profession - they always do so much for so little - wait! scratch that, reverse it.
