I bought an ex demo CT 4s today and collecting soon. I get what’s left on the Porsche charging service (2 years 9 months) but are there other apps I should download or services to sign up to for charging on the road? We have a home charger so that’s 95% of charging covered but other tips would be great.
thanks for any advice.

I'm guessing you'll be using Ionity, as that is who the subsidised deal is with. You might be on the lower rate (having purchased an Ibstock car) of 30p/kwh, if not its 39p. Either way quite a saving vs the full rate.

There is an ionity app, but I'm not sure how useful that is in reality, other than showing locations and what chargers are potentially working etc

I assume you'll get given a card used to activate the chargers and you'll just need to setup an account for them to bill. Genesis used shell recharge, unfortunately I don't know who Porsche use.

Sorry I can't be of more help.

IONITY coverage can be very poor in some areas. Best to check charging providers and contingency pre journey using Google Maps (search for charging stations), ZapMap, or ChargeFinder. I’ve found Porsche navigation useless as a charging or route planner. All of the above alternatives are accessible via CarPlay.
Most public charging points now support Contactless payment, which makes reliance on an army of provider specific Apps less necessary. But specific provider apps are useful to confirm current availability and sometimes offer a better rate. If you have regular routes that make public charging necessary you’ll soon build up a folder of apps. and charging location options.
A Tesla app subscription will also allow use of some of their network at a discounted rate. It costs about a fiver per month. It will soon pay for itself and can easily be turned on & off so that you have it as an option if you’re not sure where the road (or Motorway diversions) will take you. Tesla leads the way in showing how it should be done and provides simple plug and charge with direct car based billing.

Electroverse - aggregates many providers in the one app and RFID card. No subscription needed.

My Porsche App also covers many providers so use the map to locate EVSEs which are in scope.

PAYG is the default and avoids faffing around with an app.

I have Electroverse linked to my Octopus account for payment and have used it a couple of times.
Public charging rates can vary. On my last trip I paid between 69p and 89p per unit, vs. 7p at home. Thankfully it’s not something I do regularly.

I’ve IONITY membership linked to two new Porsche Evs this autumn.

my daughter drives an ID4 and her husband is using it to and from maternity hospital where she’s just given birth to twins. The manic trips to visit her mean it’s depleted its charge and I know there’s an IONITY station 1 mile from the hospital … can I do the fatherly thing and take the VW to recharge on my Porsche supplied IONITY / Porsche charge card? (15mins on 350kw irrespective of the ID4 software would stick 100 miles onto the car and make the family of four trip home less anxious!)

Worth a try.
The plug and charge part could get in the way and you may end up paying a standard rate.
I once bumped into a fortunate fellow Taycan driver at an Ionity station who told me that during his ownership an account bug meant he had not paid for any of his charging.

??? - Storm Bert isn’t the kind of backdrop to be fiddling around with an IONITY screen!
Thanks

Sounds good. What does Electroverses get you that the Porsche Charging Service doesn’t? Sorry if I am being lazy here. Guess I could do some decent research myself!

Not all Operators are in either app but with both you probably have most bases covered.

Porsche Mobility continue to add more Operators to My Porsche all covered within your charging contract. For example, today I noticed that MFG is now available and is cheaper than using Electroverse or PAYG.

You can get up to 10% discount on charging with some networks when using Electroverse

My experience is that Porsche, ZapMap and Chargefinder all have gaps.
I was put off Porsche Nav soon after buying the car when it wanted me to drive past a Motorway Service Area that I know had many rapid & ultra rapid charges, directing me to an off motorway and off route charging location, despite having the prefer Porsche stations navigation option unset.
To be fair the government approach of leaving the charging network solution entirely to the market, rather than compelling the industry to maintain a national aggregated universal database, means that during rollout any individual dataset will always be incomplete. Another factor affecting transition to EVs.

If 95% of your charging is at home, spend a bit of time working out your best tariff for home and don't worry about the rest.

The Porsche charge card you get, Electroverse and a std credit card will be fine.

I tend to use GridServe and Ionity out of choice when I have to use public chargers, mainly because they tend to have faster chargers at better prices. But these days that's rare as most of my trips now have destination chargers :)
