Thanks for the input. Is anyone seeing extended charging above 200kW? The US evidence online suggests this is common - eg around 300kW in a J1 II from 10-60% or 250kW for a J1. I wonder if it’s just too cold here to get that performance - it seems to rely on the battery being at between about 33C and 55C and that will always require quite a bit of pre-heating in the UK.
Yep J1 pretty much 10-60% at 250kW on my local DCFC near Kettering. Makes the old Model S feel a tad pedestrian (140kW max and it's blink and you missed it at that power80-100 more normal 2018 S100D 130k miles since new).

This is what Porsche presented as relative charging curves that are not location specific. All evidence points to the fact that the refresh models are monsters of speed.

However, given my recent experience on a trip in a J1 I, I would charge just as quick if I use Battery friendly feature and charge at a 150kW charger to get a lower but steady charging speed over longer period of time at battery friendly temp of 95F, rather than a blast of 295kW at the beginning that cooks the battery to 131F and then having very low < 30kW charging speed as you get past 85%. J1 II may behave differently, but to me protecting the battery from cooking to 131F would be more important than saving time with a blast of high charging speed.

There are other fast chargers there too now. Right by the SuCs.
There are. Unfortunately I think they’re only 150kW and more importantly I think only 4. Still a Taycan will get me further from Edinburgh than the Tesla (big rear motor and big wheels, plus maybe 8% battery degradation over nearly 9 years)

Good info, thanks. Is that slide from the Porsche “media” website?

Yes but you can't miss Tebay!

Doubt I'd get to Edinburgh (regular drive) that easily as our 6 year old Model S still thumps my 2yo Taycan for range. Luckily I gave it to the Mrs and it still has free supercharging so no-brainer.

The Taycan is sub 185miles at 100%. The 130k 6yo S100 still north of 280.

This is not public. This is from the launch event of the refresh presentation.

This weekend, with a battery at about 30 degrees Celsius, I was charging at 314kW until 60% full. J1.2.
Hopwood services, Birmingham, Applegreen chargers...never heard of them before. 360kW chargers.
Ionity never seem to get above about 280kW.

I never seem to be able to get above 200Kw (and thats not for long....).

At the weekend i charged at ionity Sunderland. I was the only car there - i hooked up to a 400kw charger with a preconditioned battery at 13%. The max was 199 and not for long.

Am i missing something?

You might have the battery preservation mode on which caps charging at 200kw?

If the battery is preconditioned I almost always get 250-270kw on plug in even in sub zero temps. Occasionally I’ve had an older Gridserve only deliver 125-150 but I try to avoid those now.

I have a J1 MY22 Taycan and charge mostly at home. My experience out and about is mixed but charging speeds seem to be more down to the charger than the car. I think the Taycan is capable of dealing with anything you can throw at it.

I recently used the new Ionity chargers in Hull - 8 units capable of 350kW each. Only one other was in use, but the maximum I got to was about 210kW before it choked down as I got to 85%. I was looking forward to seeing if it hit the max of 275, but I suspect it was down to the grid. Or my failure to precondition! (It was a warm day so I didn't think I had to)

Good call - I'll check that. Mind you I'll probably leave it on if activated. 200kw is fast enough for me! 99% of my charging is at home at 7kw to 80% so I'm hoping my battery is in good condition!

I checked... Yes - battery preservation mode activated hence 200kw max
