Newbie - possibly silly questions

Have had the car a few weeks now and loving it. The range is bugging me slightly but I think it’s still the cold weather and hopefully some bedding in of the battery.

Anyway, I have The J1.2 CT4S and just two things I am struggling to figure out and grateful for a pointer.

1. In traffic, even if driving normally, the parking sensors kick in if you get close (and not actually that close) to a car in front (eg in a queue) or as I navigate my local London streets. Not a great drama but the car seems to think we’re close when really we’re not. Is there a setting to adjust the sensitivity of this? I am sure in my last Audi there was but I can’t find it.

2. When the car is off the climate screen shows battery and a “button” to get to the boot / frunk / charge port opening. Is there a way of getting to that without turning the car off? My kids do a lot of sport and we drop other kids home. I’d like to be able to drop them and open the boot for them from in the car. My Audi just had a normal button to do this which was handy. Worst case, I turn the car off and then the screen appears.

No sensitivity adjustment.
When the car is stopped (but still on) you should see the buttons for the trunk and frunk on the screen. I use mine for kid drop off regularly.

No specific sensitivity control but you could experiment with either of Collision or Distance warning (Car --> Assistance --> '...' --> Assistance System Settings --> Warn and Brake Assist) - failing that dealer for recalibration. Screen shots are for J1.1 but will be similar for J1.2

I don't think you can get the lower panel to change unless you power off and then on but you can of course follow the above and select Bonnet and Tailgate / Boot

I'm toying (gf would say obsessing) with the idea of buying a Taycan (probably 4S, J1.2). I have no issues with any aspect of the car apart from its size. @warnergb7 how are you getting on with it in London? All is foresee in future ownership is endlessly kerbed wheels, or scuffed lower trim.

Is there a way of getting to that without turning the car off?

In my experience the car doesn't need to be off, however it does need to be in park for this to display.

the problems you'll get won't be restricted to being in London. Yes its a big car, but no bigger than my previous F-Pace so I can't say it was an issue for me.

I just avoid multi story car parks and parking near others! I'm sure there are many of us who are cursed by the other halves for parking the furthest away from the store entrance in a carpark. (the only to find someone parked right up next to you anyway)

no issues with width on London roads in general driving or with width restrictors.. you'll soo get use it its girth!

You forgot: being parked in, unable to open the door . Happens mostly at railway station car parks.

I think you will be fine. Take out some alloy insurance as wheels do get scuffed. In car parks parallel to roadway, park away from others - ideally on the end of a row where you are guaranteed that you can open the driver's door.

The range will pick up a lot both when the weather warms up (so maybe 1st June in the UK lately if we're lucky!) and when the car gets used to your driving and regenerative braking kicks in (assuming it's a brand new vehicle). enjoy!

Okay, well I'm doing another test drive on Friday (today's was cancelled) so I'll see how I get on. I did drive an iPace for a year which is actually wider, so maybe I'm worrying unduly. Would dearly love to drive something genuinely head-turning and curvaceous. All other Evs are just so dull.

Stop obsessing and buy! If you are like me, buying it is almost worth it free up the spare time you will save staring at configurators, Porsche website, forums etc….

I love the car. Only had it a few weeks though. I had a Q7 before so used to driving big cars around London and so I am not having any issues. I have rear wheel steering though which I think helps. I dont have a comparison I guess but I’ve been in tight car parks including a multi storey at the weekend and it was fine. The sensors did come on though, hence the questions above but I really wasn’t near anything. I also find reverse parking is pretty easy too but I would never buy this car without the surround parking option. I have read the rear camera is poor but not having that option ticked (I forget the actual name but it’s the one that gives you a surround camera view) would be a mistake I think.

Yes. I think of it as being about the same footprint as a Range Rover and they are everywhere in London. Actually the Sport Turismo is about 10cm wider and 2cm longer. The length can be a bit of a risk if you are parking on a crowded street I guess.

If you want "head-turning and curvaceous" you should of course buy a Morgan Plus Four. Mine gets not just turned heads but also smiles and cheers . I don't get any of that in the Taycan -- but it is a great touring car.

Thanks for all the tips on the original questions. I’ll try putting it in park next time as that makes sense to show the “buttons”. Thanks also for the pointers on the PCM… Would be a lot of presses to get to the menu item but hopefully putting in park does the trick

Good to hear! Thanks for that. Yes, it is new. Bought from a dealer who had it in stock but had more options than I wanted. Was in black which was not first choice but I really like it.
Most of the driving at the moment is little 3 or 4 mile runs around town so it’s probably about the worst possible range profile. But that said, as I did get 3 miles/kwh yesterday on a run including some 50mph stuff I was happy with that given the temp.

The short runs aren't great for range either, especially in the winter - my commute is 3 miles each way and at the moment I'm lucky to get 1.8mi/kWh - in the summer it's closer to 3.5. Nice to pre-heat the cabin this time of year though!

Taycan is not as big as you imagine - very similar to the Panamera, S-Class and so on
