Hi All,

Quick question. Different to J1.1 (where any type of sound was not included as standard) I notice on my order:

- Porsche Electric Sport Sound (which I've added)

However, if you don't add this option there's still:
- Porsche Electric Sound included as standard.

So the question is - has this been added in J1.2 refresh and even if you don't select the option, the car will make some kind of sound? (I don't mean the EU mandated pedestrian warning external sound at low speeds) ?

Because if it is the case, I'll probably remove this 442EUR option and choose something more meaningful (like Ionizer or 4Z Clima)

Which model?

GTS and upwards have ESS as standard.

Don't waste your money as it is awful IMHO and I never use mine.

All EVs have the pedestrian warning sound which is entirely separate as standard.

I think the ESS comes standard with the higher trim models. In my MY25 ST I just have the standard sound option. You can hear it in- and outside (at low speeds), but it's limited and more of use for pedestrians . Did a testdrive with the ESS option, think it's ‘funny', but wasn't willing to pay for it as an additional option.

I have a '25 Turbo and ESS is listed on the sticker as a $500 option, so presumably not standard? I didn't build mine so don't know for sure.

What I have noticed, however, is that the electric sound, even when turned off, sounds different from J1.1 to J1.2. Like @W1NGE, I think it's pretty silly and never turn mine on (nor did I in the J1.1.), but you can definitely hear a difference between J1.1 and J1.2. It's more prominent and noticeable in the J1.2 even when "off." Personally, I don't think it's a bad thing, I like the way it now sounds when "off". It's a sort of a soft electric whirr. It's still too much when turned on though.

You are quite correct - option on Turbo, standard on GTS (go figure!).

The sound varies depending on model and for the GTS it is "special again" - still rubbish though!

I paid for it on my 4S and hated it then and it came standard on my GTS otherwise I would not have re-purchased it.

When 'off' what you are hearing is the Pedestrian Awareness sound - not part of ESS but required on all EVs by law.

For the price of the ESS, you can also opt for airbags for the rearseat passengers :CWL:

If you want a Porsche that makes sounds, then get a Panamera.

I got both ?

I actually think it is really good, but in situations where you need pedestrians to know you are there. I've found it invaluable in car-parks and busy urban environments where there are a lot of people and have noticed the difference when it's on or off. I guess not an issue if you won't use the car like that much

In J1.2, you have to have minimum the Bose sound system to be able to have that sound option.
The pedestrian sound is mandatory is EU so you still have that.
I wonder if when you option it if it sounds more just on the inside or also on the outside.
On my J1.1 CT4S I have the feeling that if I put it on the pedestrian hear me better when I’m driving slowly behind them. But maybe it’s just inside that i hear it more.

I don't know the regulations in the UK, but in the USA the exterior pedestrian alert sounds cannot be turned off (safety feature). I believe the Sport Sound is completely separate and is pumped into the cabin for driver/passenger enjoyment.

the Sport Sound is a *lot* louder than the pedestrian warning sound

Sport sound is nice for kids in the backseat.
Otherwise really useless.
I have my "individual" setting as Sport-Plus without sound.

People continue to confuse ESS with the standard pedestrian awareness sound.

With ESS and its on at low speed in car parks then clearly you are announcing your presence.

It's just not needed IMHO.
