Do I really need to pay $27/month to see my Taycan’s range on my phone?

My Porsche Connect services just expired recently as I’ve owned my car for 3 years, and basically all functionality from the smartphone app went away. I get that these car companies are greedy and charge subscriptions for everything, but…. Come on, I can’t even see my car’s range anymore from my phone?! I have to pay $324 every year to see my battery status?? Surely this can be accessed another way…

I don't think there is another way, you'd need something that can "wake up" your car to get the real-time readings.
I'm on the fence about the cost, I know nothing is for free, if they include 10 years they will add it to the base-price of the car ... so even those who don't care for all those functions will still be paying for it.

It would be better if they had some package that only included battery-status and preconditioning of the interior temp for a more acceptable price or have that included for atleast 10 years. Not everybody needs the data-heavy google maps satellite images overlay etc.
It's not worth $324/year to me.

Its ironic they now can't monitor the battery-health of cars who don't have an active connect subscription :)

Appreciate the answers from the others. Not so much from the person that told me to stop complaining about being charged for something many other automakers offer for free.
You are spot on relative to this one. Porsche please fix this! It’s stupid, annoying and totally unnecessary.

I haven’t taken the plunge, but there are a number of threads reporting some functionality on the app without the subscription (precondition?). If you have charging at home you might set the profile & timer to get to 80% each morning. I don’t know, but I wonder if you used the mobile charger connect (the $1200 one) whether you’d get the SOC on some other app??

There are many more services than simply range....for now though no other app can access this data.

Traffic, timers, profiles, climate, weather, remote horn, locking, locate, Internet radio, map updates etc

Fundamentally you don't need it but please don't dramatise what you lose as it will confuse others (newer forum members).

These services are just super standard. I believe the only reason they even charge for this is because you can technically perform them being really far away from the car, so you're using their servers for processing. Outside of that, none of these features are special enough to be 27/month in this day and age.

It would be easier to part with the money if the service was more reliable and faster to respond. People expect premium software if they are paying a premium price for it. The Porsche app and backend software are not a premium product in their current state.

I thought the same thing but then I realized the vehicle has an embedded cell service which does cost Porsche something to maintain. In the US I’m charged $15/month to add any new device which communicates with the network.
So if for the remaining monthly amount I get to see where my car is located at all times, what the status of my car is (locked, unlocked, window open, trunk/frunk open as well as vehicle range, charging status and more then I feel it’s worth the extra $12/month which is cheap for all the extra security features but also to remotely monitor my SOC and to make changes to my timers & charging profiles.
Without it you are blind and you would never know if a thief broke into your car or your battery or charging system was having a problem.
I decided to pay for it since it does give me peace of mind.

As I said on an earlier thread on the same subject, this just isn’t a lot of money compared to the price of the car. When you’re spending six figures on a car and you’re asked to pay another $324 a year I understand that you might feel upset, but in the end, is it really a lot of money?

The PCM Connect service has some inherent costs, and the idea that Porsche wants to recover those costs is not particularly odd to me. I pay similar amounts for subscription to important apps that I use on my smart phone.

Also, remember that when Porsche entered into the EV game, they were learning everything from scratch. Having had some experience now, they know that bundling the cost of a 10 year subscription into the price of the car is the way to go. Good for them.

For those of us who would not own the car for 10 years, we will paid extra but in the end if it’s less irritating for clients, then they did the right thing.

I let my Taycan app expire but I enjoy my Chevy Bot app with full functions at no charge. I've had the Bolt going on 5 years.
