The only Porsche that truly keep their value are the very rare / limited edition ones, such as Speedsters, Dakar, S/T.etc
Nah, only the old ones.
Decades ago, driving a Porsche was something special, only for the rich.
Porsches were pure, not that complicated, not very common driving machines.
Now there are so many Porsches, everybody drives them, everybody can afford them, there are way too many Porsches nowadays, you see them everywhere.
That's why the old ones are going up in price, just out of nostalgia.
Buying a modern 911 for investment is not a good idea, same for the Taycan or any other Porsche (except GT3).

Like virtually every other car, the only Porsche that keept its value or even increases it, is the one that is purchased already highly depreciated.

I got my 996 Turbo when it was 30k in the market. Today I could sell it for around 60k. But that's still a far cry from its original MSRP of over 100k.

If you don't want to lose money you shouldn't have bought it in the first place.
It's just funny that people focus on money instead of pleasure, the main reason one should buy a car in the first place imho.
Couldn't agree more, it's a fun tool, if you don't want to spend the money, go ride a bicycle!

There is a company in Germany, they put new batteries into the BMW i3, gives the car a new life. Curious to see if anything like this is coming to the old Taycans...

What I don't like on my Taycan now: It has 0% driving assist, and the electric motor is whining and inefficient. The car itself is still stellar!

Could be worse though:

Those are all 2022 cars, ALL Tesla models have 50+% depreciation!
Taycan isn't even in that list.
Count your blessings and regret selling your Taycan.
I'm not. 🥳
I would agree…if I could keep my CT4 for another two-three years.
Since they are not able to repair it in reasonable amount of time for me, I decided to sell it and take one 4S from the shop. 🤷‍♂️
And I lost lots of money…almost 60% of the initial price from 2021. 🤦🏻‍♂️

It used to be said by Porsche that 70% of all Porsches ever built we still being driven. No idea if it is true or what the % is now but one thing that would I suspect have made a difference to Taycan resale values was for Porsche to make a virtue out of and actively promote/promise that the batteries could always be replaced say after 15 years. It would also have burnished their environmental standing. Some Taycans have apparently reached the 250,000 mile mark...

The thing with Tesla is that the MSRP is highly variable. So it depends on when you bought it. Avg Depreciation is a little harder to calculate on a Tesla. Where as on a Porsche, the MSRP never goes down.

Yes, I'm familiar with that.
They update the BMS to accept the larger battery as well.
Had an i3 myself and they're brilliant, well made and still look modern (although more than 10(!) years old!).
I think in 10-20 years time there will be all sorts of companies that replace bad batteries at a fraction of the cost of a new OEM battery.

It relates to the options picked as well. Especially for Gen1 Taycans. Stuff like bigger battery, folding mirrors, sound system, glass roof, 4+1 seats. These features are included in the major Tesla Model 3 class of EVs and people felt left out without them, especially if thats their only car and they have to daily it.

It also explains why the ST and CT drop less in value - people with the Taycan as their only car want to pick up friends from an airport, or go on longer road trips with people and luggage for example. It needs to check all boxes in their lifestyle.

That's why I took almost all options, not only for fun but also for "investment".
Not that I want to sell my car but if I sell the car, that passenger display (for instance) would make all the difference for someone else, maybe they pay even more than market value just cuz it has all the options they want...🤓

I look at options in the exactly opposite way with the exception of the larger battery. I think that's a requirement. Other than that, options are almost worthless when it comes to the second hand market. It may help you sell your car faster, but it really doesn't add much to the value. The reason that taycans depreciate so much is that options make up a big chunk of the price when new, but depreciate to 0 in a few short years when the owner tries to sell their car.

It really depends on the options. Options for daily use cases are highly valued. So stuff like contrast stitching won't help too much. Shoppers in the second hand market likely relies on this as their only car and is quite price conscious.

They may make the car more desirable, but they don't increase the price of the car on the second hand market.

Porsche agrees with this as they completely depreciate the cost of options on your lease.
