even the current shops are getting out of business as they can't keep up with all the new SW on ICE cars. Just buying the right equipment that is getting more and more specialized by the brands is getting pretty expensive
The longer a modern car is on the market, the more WizKids are hacking the S/W or getting familiar with its issues.
You just have to find them.
There are many clones of PIWIS III already.
The problem is that an official dealership or any other official business can't use these kind of clones (or are they? 🤗)
I think CT Garage in Thailand is a good example of a shop that has the knowledge, balls and power to fix your €100K+ EV for a fraction of the cost of an official dealership.
You just have to find those kind of shops.
Or do you want to pay thousands of dollars per year to get a Porsche Extended Warranty for things that may not even break down?

Perhaps, only time will show. Well aware of the clones, but not sure if I would trust independent shop with hacked SW. Now if they have done the investment for factory approved SW, I might consider it. I am not talking about maintenance items, which average savvy person can do.

CT Garage is exception as the cost going to the dealer in Thailand is cost prohibited for people who wanted luxury car and bought it of the used market after warranty.

I’m only interested in EVs.

Hybrids retain the overly complex Rube Goldberg that is ICE. They don’t get us away from plugs, belts, pumps, and oil changes.
No, they don’t keep you from doing oil changes once a year, and plugs and belts once every 10 years.

But they do keep you from having to stop at a DC charger every 2 hours on a road trip.

From a time/inconvenience standpoint, definitely depends on your use case if you travel long distances frequently or not.

Plugs and belts are so infrequent, I wouldn’t even bother mentioning them.

Instead it’s the “having to stop at the gas station all the time” that is the inconvenience if you mostly drive in the city.

My wife is at the gas station every week or two. I NEVER charge anywhere but home.

Around town? I don’t think I’ll ever want anything but an EV. But if I travel a lot or commute far, I don’t mind changing the oil every once in a while. They’re all tradeoffs.
